In David and Goliath, Malcolm Gladwell challenges how we think about obstacles and disadvantages, offering a new interpretation of what it means to be discriminated against, or cope with a disability, or lose a parent, or attend a mediocre school, or suffer from any number of other apparent setbacks. Gladwell begins with the real story of what happened between the giant and the shepherd boy those many years ago.

Where does David and Goliath rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the most interesting and inspiring books I've read in some time.

What was one of the most memorable moments of David and Goliath?

How Gladwell was able to show how an "underdog" like David or a person in the modern world has an opportunity to utilize one's disadvantages to achieve some pretty remarkable things when one is able to persevere and compensate for those disadvantages.

Which character – as performed by Malcolm Gladwell – was your favorite?

The doctor who was able to come up with an effective treatment for childhood leukemia in spite of many detractors in the medical profession who did their best to discourage his efforts.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I needed some time to process the concepts Gladwell was presenting.

    Any additional comments?

For anyone who feels like or is in close relationship with an "underdog," this is a must read.

Delta Force—the US Army’s most elite top-secret strike force. They dominate the modern battlefield, but you won’t hear about their heroics on CNN. No headlines can reveal their top-secret missions, and no book has ever taken readers inside—until now. Here, a founding member of Delta Force takes us behind the veil of secrecy and into the action to reveal the never-before-told story of First Special Forces Operational Detachment-D (Delta Force).

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. An insiders look at special forces, especially Delta Force.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The first hand account from a true warrior.

Have you listened to any of Robertson Dean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me appreciate how difficult it is to be in special forces, how advanced are their skills and how great is their mental toughness. I'm glad they are on our side!

    Fascinating read!

Jack Ryan has only just moved back into the Oval Office when he is faced with a new international threat. An aborted coup in the People's Republic of China has left President Wei Zhen Lin with no choice but to agree with the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. They have declared the South China Sea a protectorate and are planning an invasion of Taiwan. The Ryan administration is determined to thwart China’s ambitions, but the stakes are dangerously high as a new breed of powerful Chinese anti-ship missiles endanger the US Navy's plans to protect the island.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Right at the top. This is an amazing story. Beautifully written and very moving!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Louie, of course, was the main man. His will to live and his changed life was remarkable. But the Bird was such a psychopath! He was a fascinating character to follow and hate.

What about Edward Herrmann’s performance did you like?

The narrator has a wonderful, expressive voice fitted well to this material.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Broken dreams, unimaginable suffering, amazing redemption...
