Ninety-nine elite American soldiers are trapped in the middle of a hostile city. As night falls, they are surrounded by thousands of enemy gunmen. Their wounded are bleeding to death. Their ammunition and supplies are dwindling. This is the story of how they got there - and how they fought their way out. Black Hawk Down drops you into a crowded marketplace in the heart of Mogadishu, Somalia with the U.S. Special Forces and puts you in the middle of the most intense firelight American soldiers have fought since the Vietnam war.

Would you consider the audio edition of Black Hawk Down to be better than the print version?

That's hard to tell because that depends on the individual. But the narrator was very good and the book was so well written that you can actually visualize everything happening during the special forces soldiers operation in Mogadishu.

  • Don't Know Much About the American Presidents

For more than 20 years since his New York Times best-seller Don't Know Much About History first appeared, Davis has shown that Americans don't hate history, just the dull version dished out in school. Now Davis turns his attention to what is arguably the most important and most fascinating subject in American history: our presidents. From the heated debates over executive powers through the curious election of George Washington in 1789 and, for more than 200 years, up through the meteoric rise of Barack Obama, the presidency has been at the heart of American history.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend anybody to any friend because I believe the more you read the more you will learn. So, yes I would recommend this book to a friend.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    I'm not sure yet.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hearing the narrators gives me a completely different perspective because they pronounce words more fluidly then me.

What else would you have wanted to know about Kenneth C. Davis’s life?

    Any additional comments?

The reason why I say this book is way to biased is because of the grading scale the author uses. Why couldn't he just present the facts and let the reader grade the presidencies? He gave A+'s to every president who abused their powers and expanded more government. But gave C's and below to every president who believed more in limited government.

  • Nathan Bedford Forrest: A Biography

In this detailed and fascinating account of the legend of the "Wizard of the Saddle," we see a man whose strengths and flaws were both of towering proportions, a man possessed of physical valor perhaps unprecedented among his countrymen. And, ironically, Forrest - the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan - was a man whose social attitudes may well have changed farther in the direction of racial enlightenment over the span of his lifetime than those of most American historical figures.

If you could sum up Nathan Bedford Forrest in three words, what would they be?

Nathan Bedford Forrest was fearless, passionate and a leader. Although Bedford has had a controversial life I admire his generalship during the Civil War.

In a startling departure, James Lee Burke has written an epic story of love, hate, and survival set against the tumultuous background of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Booklist calls White Doves "an epic filmed in tight focus, taking us from secession to Reconstruction at an intensely personal level."

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It's a kind of story line that keeps you listening but overall it leaves you with a feeling of being unfulfilled. I thought the book would be more focused on the war but instead was more focused on a life of a slave girl.
