  • Listening Is an Act of Love

    • ABRIDGED (55 mins)
    • By Dave Isay
    • Narrated By Dave Isay

Drawn from the work of StoryCorps, the largest and most ambitious private oral history project in American history, comes this tapestry of the stories Americans have been sharing from their lives to leave behind to their loved ones.

    Debra says: "Touching"
    Any additional comments?

Thank you Audible for this beautiful collection of stories. I found it very moving and well timed- I listened to it while baking pumpkin pies in preparation for Thanksgiving. It made for a lovely prelude to the holidays and spending time with loved ones. Thank you!

  • Gods in Alabama

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Joshilyn Jackson
    • Narrated By Catherine Taber

When Arlene Fleet heads up north for college, she makes three promises to God: She will stop fornicating with every boy who crosses her path; never tell another lie; and never, ever go back to the "fourth rack of hell", her hometown of Possett, Alabama. All she wants from Him is one little miracle: make sure the body is never found.

Nicole says: "I couldn't turn it off!"
    "Good story, bad language"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No- the story was good but the language was pretty bad; I don't mind profanity here and there but this was too much for me.

Would you be willing to try another book from Joshilyn Jackson? Why or why not?

Perhaps; I loved "A grown up kind of pretty", which is why I sought this one out; but this was much more harsh and less charming than "A grown up kind of pretty".

What about Catherine Taber’s performance did you like?

Loved the accents! narration was very good.

  • The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Alexander McCall Smith
    • Narrated By Lisette Lecat
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Mma "Precious" Ramotswe sets up a detective agency in Botswana on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, making her the only female detective in the country. At first, cases are hard to come by. But eventually, troubled people come to Precious with a variety of concerns. Potentially philandering husbands, seemingly schizophrenic doctors, and a missing boy who may have been killed by witch doctors all compel Precious to roam about in her tiny van, searching for clues.

    Gene says: "Transcends its Genre"
    "Charming and brilliant"
Would you consider the audio edition of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency to be better than the print version?

Absolutely- the narrator is brilliant at the accents and really brings the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh many times but sad at a few parts as well.
