I follow Security Now on the TWIT.TV network.. So I knew this would be of interest to me, but I really was surprised how good the story and characters were. This is a non-stop thrill ride from the very beginning. The reader also does a great job, however the choice of microphone or maybe the quality of the audio engineering could have been a bit richer for my taste, but that did not impede my enjoyment of a fine audio book while at work. If Mark Russinovich's next book is as good as this one, I will really be happy.
Zero Day is a must read/listen. :)

This book is more than just how the mind works but also how mankind works. I found it OUTSTANDING!! This explains in plain English why we are who we are and why we act the way we do. This is a MUST read!! Great!!!!!!

Expecting a rich tapestry of sci-fi, history and suspense spun by one of the masters of our day, I found myself shaking my head at points wondering why King cannot get past his love of high school. A very large chunk of the book has little to do with Oswald or JFK.

I have to give credit to King for jogging the readers thoughts to introspection. I found myself shutting off the audio book and just thinking about my life, my kids and what I might do differently if I had a chance. Also King does a pretty good job a re-creating a feel for the early 60's and his passion for the music and culture of the times.

Very few references to world events that led up to the shooting were written about.

I do recommend this audio version as a fine and interesting listen/read.

One criticism of the reader of the audio book would be that some times I found it hard to tell which character was talking since the voices sometimes between some characters sounded too much alike.

Also, I found a distraction in the voices used by the reader toward the end of the book. One sounds like Jimmy Steward, another like John Houseman. This would not bother anyone that was young, but to me it was distracting.

If King would have tightened things up a bit more I would have enjoyed it MUCH more.

So far, I can tell that the writer enjoys music and the sounds of his own thoughts and sex.
The story is interesting however not all that original. I enjoy the characters so far more than the story. At first which is this part one of the listen, I can tell you that I absolutely love the readers of this book. A top notch job by the narrators who do a superlative job in reading this book and adding life to the dialogue. The readers have pleasant voices and really care a great deal for the book as well. The story seems a bit contrived. Like a conscience effort to place sex and violence every so often: Roger Corman style.

The writer takes great effort to draw the characters for us to enjoy, however the English translation sometimes might get in the way, especially when eating is concerned. Japanese eating hamburgers and pizza seemed out of place and I dismissed this as a deliberate effort not to alienate American listeners, when in fact I would enjoy the sounds of the authentic dishes such as Meeso soup etc..

I am enjoying this book so far but I have a feeling that I could write the rest of the book myself based on other stories and news articles about a similar vein. I hope I will be delightfully wrong. :)

Amity Shlaes brings those bad old times back to life as thought it were yesterday. She does not have much commentary in this book implied or un-implied as far as I was concerned. I't pretty straight down the middle. Of course the history has been edited by her and that would be a type of editorializing I suppose. I really enjoyed it. Made me think. Made me wish Bush and Oh,bummer would have read it.
