I already liked Patricia Briggs, and now I have some other authors to check out. I wasn't disappointed in any of the stories, which is great for an anthology. The stories and charaterization were engaging and intelligent, well delivered and not unnecessarily pessimistic or arty (in the depressing pointless fiction sense). Well done.
Green Rubin did her own narration for the first book, and I found it much more engaging. I find myself dozing off with this narrator, and not following what she's saying.
Maybe, once I forget the plot line. The narration was so awful, it's distracting from the story. She doesn't sound like the character speaking, just someone reading the story, and not well at that.
The narrator could have actually embodied and enlivened the less character.
The author makes the characters quite introspective, and explains too much using self talk of Anna's character rather than showing with her actions and dialogue. Please, please, replace the narrator so the remaining books aren't ruined for me.
Several of the stories were extremely introspective and sad, not the urban adventure stories I was expected given the other work by the featured authors. I couldn't even finish it. Terrible. Particularly true of the small name authors. One or two stories stood out, but really the overall impression was no fun.
Better editing, more focus, getting to the point a lot faster. Less rambling, an outline so I knew what points would be made.
I couldn't listen to this audio recording, I found it triggering. The woman's voice had an edge and commanding feel to it in sections that made me really uncomfortable. I think this sort of thing should go over the top to be soothing and safe, and this recording didn't make it. Sorry, I wanted to like it, but I didn't.
