The Guide to Investing Gold and Silver tells listeners the essential history of economic cycles that make gold and silver the ultimate monetary standard; how the U.S. government is driving inflation by diluting our money supply and weakening our purchasing power; and much more.

  • Outliers: The Story of Success

In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

S Prabhu says: "Excellent book; well adapted for the audio format"
"Probably one of my favorite books of all-time!"

    Story
What made the experience of listening to Outliers the most enjoyable?

His narration is fantastic. The way he looks at life in statistics is fascinating. It makes you realize that people end up the way they are because of the circumstances throughout their whole lives. People don't end up successful or as failures purely based on their talents or lack there of. Malcom will make you look at people and success in a different light, which is a good thing. It is eye opening.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it is captivating and will fascinate you.

    Any additional comments?

It is well worth listening to. I will listen to all of his books after this.

Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has been a top seller for the simple reason that it ignores trends and pop psychology for proven principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity. Celebrating its 15th year of helping people solve personal and professional problems, this special anniversary edition includes a new forward and afterword written by Covey that explore whether the 7 Habits are still relevant.

Scott says: "A true guide for life"
"It caters to parents not youths!"

    Story
What did you like best about The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People? What did you like least?

I don't quite understand what all the hype is about. The book is good but not great. It seems to cater more to parents and adults. It helps with raising kids and families. I don't think it is that applicable for singles in their 20s or below. That is not to say it's not a good way to live because it it, but I don't think it is anything you do not realize on your own.

    Any additional comments?

Overall, I don't understand why it is any more popular than other self help books.

  • Breakout Nations: In Pursuit of the Next Economic Miracles

After a decade of rapid growth, the world’s most celebrated emerging markets are poised to slow down. Which countries will rise to challenge them? To identify the economic stars of the future, we should abandon the habit of extrapolating from the recent past and lumping wildly diverse countries together. We need to remember that sustained economic success is a rare phenomenon. As an era of easy money and easy growth comes to a close, China in particular will cool down.

Konstantin says: "Great overview of developing economies"
"So boring I don't think I can finish it"
    Overall
    Performance
    Story
What would have made Breakout Nations better?

If he got to the point. He drags on about all these details on each country, but really the reader just wants to an overall conclusion on what he thinks each countries economic potential is. He goes on for so long that you really don't know what he actually thinks about the country. It is not too much help unless you pay extremely close attention to everything he is saying.

Would you be willing to try another one of Alan Sklar’s performances?

    No

  • Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

Why we think it’s a great listen: Want to join the “superhumans”? Luckily you don’t have to run to catch up with them, thanks to McDougall’s and Sanders’ inspiring (and motivating) journey through history, science, physiology, health, entertaining characters and unlikely friendships. Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure.

Would you listen to Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen again? Why?

Yes I would. There is so much to learn and be reminded of. It really teaches you a lot about the human race. You learn that there are many ways to live and western civilizations don't do everything correctly. There is a lot more to living than just our daily routines. Listen to the book! It is worth it.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I don't think he is a great novel writer. He writes the book as if it were a lot of newspaper articles. The book jumps around a lot, but at the end of the day what you learn trumps the way it is written. Also, it is still very intriguing.

    Probably not

Would you ever listen to anything by Eric Ries again?

    Sure the narration was fine.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was disappointed. This book seems to focus primarily on technology start ups. I was looking for a book that gave advice more for retail stores and restaurants. This is not the book for that.
