"A book of two halves"
I really liked this book, and the narration was very good. The only issue I have with it is the author's rather monotonous descriptions of situations. I lost count of the amount of smell references he made to scenes and places and the amount of cigarette smoke references were multiple.
That said, the second half of the book is truly compelling and a real coming of age tale, the first part did take some getting used to for me.
"Not a let down..."
I really liked the last installment of this series. Some reviewers have said it is too fatalistic and a let down but Suzanne Collins has blended just about a perfect mix of tradegy, hope and sadness. I have really enjoyed Carolyn McCormick's maturing with our hero as the books have been written and I think the ending is perfect. - all 3 books are roughly 33 hours but very enjoyable.
"Beautiful words, wonderfully spoken"
This book was a wonderfully read by Stefan Rudnicki and the fantastic storyline and beautiful ending was a truly pleasure to listen to, This book was written in the 1950s but stands tall today as a great novel. This coming from someone who isnt a Science Fiction fan. - a wonderful book.
"Good pace and prose but a bit of a let down"
I was very excited when downloading this as it had come very highly reccomended by Chuck Palahniuk and others and there is a strong flavour of Fight Club to storyline. It is a very gripping book that has a great sense of slickness and pace but the last 20 pages left me feeling a bit short changed. Worth a listen though, you may feel differently.
"sheer brilliance"
Great novel, wonderfully written- a triumph. Narrators also fantastic. Coupland captures sadness, depression, tragedy and comedy in a gem of a book.
