The Earl of Spenborough has always been noted for his eccentricity. Leaving a widow younger than his own daughter Serena is one thing, but quite another is leaving Serena's fortune to the trusteeship of the Marquis of Rotherham -- a man whom Serena once jilted and who now has the power to give or withhold his consent to any marriage she might contemplate. When Serena and her lovely young stepmother Fanny decide to move to Bath, Serena makes an odd new friend and discovers an old love, Major Hector Kirkby.

What did you love best about Bath Tangle?

The confusion and sweetness throughout. The listener is given little hints so they can predict what will happen, but only sometimes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ivo. Because he keeps his secret very well, I think.

Have you listened to any of Sian Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I enjoyed this very much. That deep voice must have been difficult.

If you could take any character from Bath Tangle out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Serena, Because she is a lot of fun.

    Any additional comments?

Loved the book and the narration.

  • The Importance of Being Earnest: Free Performance

This final play from the pen of Oscar Wilde is a stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers, and a lost handbag. Jack and Algernon are best friends, both wooing ladies who think their names are Ernest, "that name which inspires absolute confidence." Wilde's effervescent wit, scathing social satire, and high farce make this one of the most cherished plays in the English language.

Novelist and professional companion Evangeline Ames has rented a cottage in the outskirts of Little Dixby, far from the London streets where she was recently attacked. Fascinated by the paranormal energy of nearby Crystal Gardens, she finds some pleasurable diversion in sneaking past the wall to explore the grounds. And when her life is threatened again, she instinctively goes to the gardens for safety. Lucas Sebastian has never been one to ignore a lady in danger, even if she is trespassing on his property.

Would you listen to The Convenient Marriage again? Why?

The story was cute and at times quite funny. Richard Armitage is quite convincincing as a shy maiden and as the frightened cousin. I love these old fashioned romances and this one is wonderful. Yes, I will listen to it many times.

What other book might you compare The Convenient Marriage to and why?

I recently discovered Georgette Heyer and she is now one of my favorites. I purchased this book because I enjoyed "Bath Tangle" so much.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I think when Rule takes the brooch is my favorite part, but the scene on the road before that made me chuckle.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I wasn't able to. I kept wanting to get back to it.

    Any additional comments?

I look forward to more books like this one.
