I have liked all the other Jeffery Deaver books, but this one I just can't get in to. I'm going to wait a little bit and try again, but I would spend my credit on something else.

I have read a lot of Joanne Fluke's Hannah Swenson books and they are entertaining. This was anything but! I was 3 hours in before anything "new" happened. Then ok I wanted to see "whodunit", well surprise, I still don't know. That was hours of my life that I will never get back. I just didn't care about any of the characters practically from the beginning.
Don't waste your time or your money.

I did enjoy the story, but I'm getting really tired of the female detective whining about wanting to have sex all the time! It really distracts from the story.

I normally like Nelson DeMille's books, but this one was just bad. It was long and boring. The narration was devoid of emotion. The characters were one dimensional and I just didn't like anything about them. The only characters in the story I liked died. What a waste of time and money.

The Apocalypse does not end. The Changed will grow in numbers. The Spared may not survive. Even before the EMPs brought down the world, Alex was on the run from the demons of her past and the monster living in her head. After the world was gone, she believed Rule could be a sanctuary for her and those she’d come to love. But she was wrong. Now Alex is in the fight of her life against the adults, who would use her, the survivors, who don’t trust her, and the Changed, who would eat her alive....

I really like book 1, Ashes, and was looking forward to book 2. It totally lost my interest. Too many new characters were introduced and it didn't make me care about them. Tom and Alex were not really in the story until the end. We learned nothing new about the Changed or about anything else. Where's the little girl? She was not part of the story and I forgot her name already. She is mentioned once or twice. Before I buy the 3rd book I'm going to read the reviews. I read the reviews for this book and thought it can't be that bad, the first book as good. Listen to the reviews on this one and skip it.

Spademan used to be a garbage man. That was before the dirty bomb hit Times Square, before his wife was killed, and before the city became a blown-out shell of its former self. Now he's a hitman. In a near-future New York City split between those who are wealthy enough to "tap in" to a sophisticated virtual reality, and those who are left to fend for themselves in the ravaged streets, Spademan chose the streets. His new job is not that different from his old one: waste disposal is waste disposal. He doesn't ask questions, he works quickly, and he's handy with a box cutter.

This book is different, but I liked it at the start. With about an hour left to go it just ran out of steam. It felt like the author didn't know how to end the story. There was no climax, it just kind of petered out.
