After centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of the Church of God Awaiting - egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athawes. Now, in the wars and intrigues that have cascaded from Charis's declaration of independence, the populous Republic of Siddermark is sliding into chaos.

I was looking forward to this book. However it was a bit of a let down
The war with the Church of God was a bit to much. I didn't need to know how all of the battles brutally killed people on both sides. I didn't need to know the in depth discussion of bore pressures etc. about the guns. There were many threads left hanging and I found that to be frustrating. I hope the next book doesn't take another year to come out. I could easily loose interest in the series and just stop reading them. This book felt like a filler book just to keep the readers on the hook, but I just might spit the hook out.

Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, award-winning authors of such best sellers as Footfall and The Legacy of Heorot, return us to the Mote, and to the universe of Kevin Renner and Horace Bury, of Rod Blaine and Sally Fowler. There, 25 years have passed since humanity quarantined the mysterious aliens known as Moties within the confines of their own solar system. They have spent a quarter century analyzing and agonizing over the deadly threat posed by the only aliens mankind has ever encountered - a race divided into distinct biological forms, each serving a different function: Master, Mediator, Engineer, Warrior.

This book was not as interesting as the first the only reason I finished it was to find out the ending and I hate to stop in the middle of something and not finish. Book 1 was much better.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

This book I found to be very engaging. Being in health care industry...the discription of how Capt. Tripps is passed along I found to be very accurate. Again there is the timeless struggle between good and evil and those who are fence sitters waiting to see which side will prevail. After reading this book I could become a King fan. I like authors who provide detail and fill the story with descriptions that I can relate to. This book is not disappointing.

Listened to this book in 3 days....was sad when it was finished. I look forward to the 3rd book to finish the story. I like historical fiction. Reminds me of the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series. Yes it is fantasy but the interaction of the characters and the story kept me interested and wanting more. I want the next book now!
