a reader less inclined to making every word sound like "purple prose"
simply not the author's best effort
constantly overdone melodramatic reading
disappointment in the author and disgust at the reader.
gave up on listening after 24%. Obtained the print copy and completed the book. Much better.
Very enjoyable and well written. Good balance of information and background. No excessive detailing of either methods of ingathering financial aspects of dispatched killers or fine points of erotica. Just enough without becoming boring or clinical. Decidedly well plotted, and finely designed at the end to leave the reader panting for the next book.
Audio performer well suited, and did an excellent rendering.
Remains an excellent reporting of conditions of the time. Audio Performance more than ably done.
fast paced and well plotted and detailed. Characterizatons are clear, dialog fun. My only caveat is that the narrator sounded bored, not engaged. Have to confess to hunting down the ebook about a third of the way through. That is so not normal for me. Lilly was OK with it, and we both want to go to the rest of the series ASAP!
Solid action/adventure with suspense and plot twists. Evidence of research rivalling Cussler. Clear, believable characters. A perfect initial volume of what promises to be an engaging series. Audio performer has pleasing voice quality and narrative and vocals flow well. Enjoyed tremendously and will certainly proceed as adventures continue.
Strong character and involving/addicting story. No boring segments. Audio performer does a really great job!
Heard this book first on a sale and a whim. Then went on to acquire the whole series. Recently acquired the Manga, and while I found it disappointing, college student grandson preferred that format (boobs). College student granddaughter, on the other hand, loved the paperback but promptly went and NOOKed the whole series. Emil Gray did a fantastic job as the audio performer.
John Glover is a very good audio performer, but after becoming accustomed to James Marsters as Dresden for the last 13 books (including Side Jobs)... Yet, as this one is told by an apparently dead Harry Dresden... As usual, the writing is great and the tales continue.
Great giggles and loads of fun with believable, interesting characters and interesting, well-developed plot. Art history with a twist, just like the protagonists.
We've all been impressed and possibly intimidated by this man who led the Bastion Club members through the last 15 years of the Napoleonic wars. Here his character and personality are illuminated, as is that of the woman who has been too aware of him since she was a child. Insightful, wry, and with the obligatory erotica well done. A must read in the Bastion Club collection.
Dresden files are compelling and addictive. Get your ears stuck on a Marsters rendition and you simply canNOT lose!
