"Rich storyline, annoying main characters"
Sure, it's a decent book, the narration was nice and the idea was a good one. However, I tired of the same back and forth the two main characters went through in regards to their relationship. It seemed as though every time they were alone (which was often), it was the same conversation, over and over. He trying to make her see that they belonged together, she, fighting it. It was too repetitive.
Depends on the topic, but I'd try another. She does have good ideas.
Rebecca's initial venture into the land of the dead.
Definitely. I think the screen version would handle the relationship differently.
"Intriguing true crime story, great narration..."
Ann Rule may not have a "model" voice, but I thoroughly enjoyed her storytelling. I found her easier to listen to than most professionals that I've listened to through the years. Her storytelling, written and spoken, are spot on.
Cinnamon Brown. My heart breaks for her and the psychological abuse that was heaped onto her as a child and young adult.
No, I haven't, but I would not hesitate to purchase one if the storyline interested me.
No extreme reactions, but I'm not moved to tears easily. I can't imagine there would be much to laugh about in this book.
Thoroughly enjoyed the entire book. It was a pleasure.
"Ann Rule at her best! Narration very suitable!"
It's a never-ending roller coaster of disbelief in how people behave the way they do, and those trusting enough to allow them to. Ann crafted this story beautifully, a fiction novel can't even compete - in this case, truth IS stranger than fiction.
Absolutely - although I'd seen the movie and knew the story, the book holds so much more detail, contains so many more rich characters, sub-plots and so much history that just can't fit into a movie... If you enjoyed the movie I would HIGHLY recommended this book. You'll bring so much more away, things will make much more sense.
Too many to pinpoint.
I think
It may be long, but I was never bored. Also, I've read where a couple people didn't care for the narration. I was hesitant to purchase it due to that, but I have thoroughly enjoyed his narration and story telling techniques. I'm so glad I went ahead and purchased it anyway. I thought he did a great job.
"Scary! Better than Potter, IMO"
I know a lot of people won't agree with me on the "better than Potter" comment, but I enjoy it much more. I've read all of the Potter books, but this series is more appealing to my tastes. I still find it funny that it's geared towards kids, because each of the books in the Apprentice series has some seriously frightening stuff in them. Enough to frighten this horror-story seasoned adult...
I hope Delaney keeps on turning them out. I'll keep on buying!
"Written for kids, but great for adults!"
I absolutely love this series! I don't have kids, and I'm in my late 30's, yet I find this very entertaining and addictive. Even for adults it is gripping and frightening at times. I think it might even be a bit much for some kids, though I know I would have loved it when I was young. Definitely a good read for all ages if you like tales of the supernatural.
Can't wait for the next book to come out!
"Disturbing to the extreme..."
In the description it states, "Not for the faint of heart" - this is absolutely true. It takes a lot for me to be frightened or "disturbed", but this was definitely disturbing - more so than any other book I've read (or listened to!). Meg Tilly's portrayal of the characters kept it alive, her portrayal of Gemma was heartbreaking. The story itself - extremely disturbing.
I would hope that everyone would have a revulsion to pedophilia, but for those that seriously cannot handle the topic, stay away. While it was a very well-written and well-read book, I doubt I will ever listen to it again.
"Wow! What fun!"
What a refreshing listen! Engaging and interesting, the characters really came to life for me through the full cast and sound effects. Though it is a sad, depressing tale, it is also very humorous. I would definitely suggest this book if you are looking for an escape from your day. I can guarantee you'll feel better about your own life situations after this one!
"Enlightening and Humbling"
Definitely recommended to anyone searching for a deeper relationship with our Lord and Savior. This book has refreshed my faith and love for Christ, has revealed the significance of the Cross to me in ways I hadn't thought of. Possibly one of the most important Audible books I've purchased since becoming a member in 2001. As the person who wrote the review before me, I can definitely see this book becoming a regular listen.
"Fun, creepy read!"
Very imaginative, rich storytelling, yet not too heavy. It was a quick listen and kept my attention throughout. The character voices from the narrator added to it. Loved it!!!
