I confess that I did not know the story of George Mallory prior to picking up this book. Mr. Archer does a wonderful job of bringing the person to life through this well crafted story. I had not read anything from him for many years - this has renewed my interest.
A great read.
everything. the author, the way the story drew me in gradually, the characters.. It was a really lovely experience across the board.
well worth the listen. these characters become like family by the end. I found myself really wanting to know what happened the next day, the next year.... but I didn't feel upset - that the author had left me hanging - just that it would have been really good to stay in the characters' lives for a little longer.
I found this story incredibly difficult to listen to. I waded through (as I did with the last two IJ books) just so that I would know what had happened to Bonnie. and could say a final goodbye to anything written by Iris Johansen. I don't know whether I have matured as a reader or if Iris has just given up / passed her books on to be ghost written. The habit of using
The Snowman by Jo Nesbo
solid, articulate, really, as good as possible given the material
i have no idea. i don't think additional characters are the issue.
infinitely better than "Daddy's Girl". Very good characters and hard to stop listening to.
other than the constant mispronunciation of a few words, this was a really enjoyable story. the Narrator was easy to listen to.
I love the distraction of audiobooks as I drive and can make my way through almost anything - and have enjoyed other books of Lisa's very much. This book however, proved my most difficult task. For the first couple of hours, nothing seems to happen. there appears to be no point to the story, no direction.. the setup is far, far too long. The main character is really tough to like- makes ridiculous decisions and allows herself to be pushed around by everyone.
The story is resolved with what I am sure is meant to be a clever ending but felt tacked on and incomplete.
