I purchased this based on good reviews and for Julie Whelan narration. It is awful. Repetitive and preachy. Woman are negative caricatures and the men though more dimensional are still weak. There are page/minutes of poorly written, trite sermons.
    Not worth the money/credit.

Jodi Picoult's poignant number one New York Times best-selling novels about family and love tackle hot-button issues head on. In The Storyteller, Sage Singer befriends Josef Weber, a beloved Little League coach and retired teacher. But then Josef asks Sage for a favor she never could have imagined - to kill him. This is a terrible book on so many levels. There are some interesting ideas however it is poorly written and each of the story lines has different yet significant problems. Editing would have eliminated the many repetitive sentences and paragraphs. For me the serious historical events were made trite. Minka's real life history is filled with tragic, true and heart-wrenching events and there are so many books that do it better. I did want to like this book...

A high-profile attorney in the middle of a leave of absence following a personal tragedy is drawn back into the legal arena amidst a media firestorm when he agrees to represent a popular rap artist accused of brutally murdering his pop star girlfriend. With its powerful voice, pause-resisting tension, and strong cast of characters, Adam Mitzner’s novels are reminiscent of such best-selling authors as Scott Turow and John Grisham.

This is a fairly typical court room drama. But better. The characters, the protagonist's dilemma make for an original drama. Look forward to the next Mitzner novel.

Very early one morning, a Minnesota political fixer answers his doorbell. The next thing he knows, he’s waking up on the floor of a moving car, lying on a plastic sheet, his body wet with blood. When the car stops, a voice says, "Hey, I think he’s breathing." And another voice says, "Yeah? Give me the bat." And that’s the last thing he knows. Davenport is investigating another case when the trail leads to the man’s disappearance, then - very troublingly - to the Minneapolis police department, then - most troublingly of all - to a woman who could give Machiavelli lessons.

John Norton says: "Still my favorite combo of author and reader"

I have read this entire series and there are some duds. This is not one of them. The story stretches reality. However just enjoy the ride. It was a fun listen. Nice to have a good Lucas story with his great supporting cast: Del, Kid, Virgil, Weather are well represented.

A torso in a suitcase looks like an impossible case, but Sean Duffy isn’t easily deterred, especially when his floundering love life leaves him in need of a distraction. So with detective constables McCrabban and McBride, he goes to work identifying the victim. The torso turns out to be all that’s left of an American tourist who once served in the U.S. military. What was he doing in Northern Ireland in the midst of the 1982 Troubles?

It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. St Benjamin's Medical School is the greatest of its kind, any death occurring within its walls would have created ripples within the academic world, but the death of Nikki Exner is far from being ordinary. Raped, and then grotesquely executed, her theatrical murder horrifies everyone. John Eisenmenger, a former forensic pathologist, finds himself dragged unwillingly into the case. Teaming up with solicitor Helena Flemming, Eisenmenger sets out to discover what really did happen to Nikki Exner.

Would you try another book from Keith McCarthy and/or Sean Barrett?

Already have. Enjoy Sean Barrett and searching his performances I discovered McCarthy. Pleasantly surprised. Though formulaic the characters are a little off the norm. Not always likable and in difficult relationship situations. Engaging.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No. It wasn't that suspenseful. It was defiantly engaging and I did want to know the outcome though I did put it down frequently.

What aspect of Sean Barrett’s performance would you have changed?

Sean is talented. At times he starts performance at the top so there is no where for character to grow. Character is one note.

Did A Feast of Carrion inspire you to do anything?

I bought another McCarthy and Barrett book.

    What disappointed you about Heartbreaker?

The plot follows traditional romantic suspense tradition. It just never does it well enough. All the elements are there! Unfortunately, it never came together for me. More disappointing because it was close.

Has Heartbreaker turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No.

What three words best describe Tanya Eby’s performance?

    Adequate, pleasant characterizations
