Keep your expectations dialed down to cute, fun, and you will enjoy.
I purchased another stand alone by author.
He did a great job.
It's a series. Soooooo...yes.
Enjoyed The Long Way Home. I love visiting Three Pines, Gamache, Claire, Ruth et al. This book did not let down in character developent or consistency. It built slowly and then raced (geographic and literary) along to the climax. Two weaknesses: slow start and predictable ending. Despite the fact that it ended in a way I felt inevitable. Recommend it.
I purchased this based on good reviews and for Julie Whelan narration. It is awful. Repetitive and preachy. Woman are negative caricatures and the men though more dimensional are still weak. There are page/minutes of poorly written, trite sermons.
Not worth the money/credit.
This is a terrible book on so many levels. There are some interesting ideas however it is poorly written and each of the story lines has different yet significant problems. Editing would have eliminated the many repetitive sentences and paragraphs. For me the serious historical events were made trite. Minka's real life history is filled with tragic, true and heart-wrenching events and there are so many books that do it better. I did want to like this book...
This is a fairly typical court room drama. But better. The characters, the protagonist's dilemma make for an original drama. Look forward to the next Mitzner novel.
I have read this entire series and there are some duds. This is not one of them. The story stretches reality. However just enjoy the ride. It was a fun listen. Nice to have a good Lucas story with his great supporting cast: Del, Kid, Virgil, Weather are well represented.
This was a terrific read. The dialogue was quick and witty. The author brought Northern Ireland setting and time period to life. All of his characters were fleshed out and distinct. Excellent!
Did not have any expectations for his YA novel. Loved it! Oliver's created a world that I could see and feel. Routed for the characters. Purchased the second book Pandemonium before I finished!
FYI. Many years from YA myself!
Already have. Enjoy Sean Barrett and searching his performances I discovered McCarthy. Pleasantly surprised. Though formulaic the characters are a little off the norm. Not always likable and in difficult relationship situations. Engaging.
No. It wasn't that suspenseful. It was defiantly engaging and I did want to know the outcome though I did put it down frequently.
Sean is talented. At times he starts performance at the top so there is no where for character to grow. Character is one note.
I bought another McCarthy and Barrett book.
The plot follows traditional romantic suspense tradition. It just never does it well enough. All the elements are there! Unfortunately, it never came together for me. More disappointing because it was close.
Adequate, pleasant characterizations
