Would you listen to Speaks the Nightbird again? Why?

I would absolutely listen to Speaks the Nightbird again. The story is captivating and the narration is flawless.

What about Edoardo Ballerini’s performance did you like?

Edoardo Ballerini's performance is OUTSTANDING! He draws you into the characters with ease and keeps the listener interested at all times. Changing voices fluently and flawlessly from character to character helps the listener to feel almost as if you are "watching" the story unfold. Definitely my favourite narrator! Just can't say enough about his skills as a narrator.

Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion.

What made the experience of listening to Winter of the World the most enjoyable?

John Lee's reading of this terrific novel was one of the best I've heard. The character voices were excellent and he switched between them so effortlessly.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think Daisy was my favourite character. She matured with age and learned from her mistakes.

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

John Lee brought the characters to life. There was so much inflection in the voices and the narrative was excellent - almost making me feel as if I was watching the story as opposed to listening to it.

If you could rename Winter of the World, what would you call it?

I don't think I would call it anything different. I love the title as it is!

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

I would absolutely recommend this audiobook to a friend. It was so well read and the story was captivating. Loved every minute of it!

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of the characters were very well portrayed. I think if I had to pick a favourite it would be Pasquale, a man with the heart and soul of a child.

I loved the voices that he gave to the characters. Each one was very distinct and the diction was perfect.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this book to a friend!
It was such a well researched and written book that
was flawlessly narrated with passion and complete understanding
    of the story.

Which character – as performed by Stephen Hoye – was your favorite?

All of the characters were so well done it is almost impossible to choose a
favorite, but if forced to make a choice it would have
to be Armistead. When he speaks to Longstreet the night
before Pickett's Charge about his feelings and friendship with
Hancock it is so very moving and heartfelt.

If you could rename The Killer Angels, what would you call it?

    Simply, "Gettysburg".

    Any additional comments?

Don't hesitate to purchase this book. It is one of
those rare stories that you just don't want to end.
