The prologue grabs your curiosity immediately and chapter one starts the action. You know it is fiction because some of the things Dr. Smith and his team get into and out of are just a little over the edge. But not so much that you want to turn it off.
I found myself sitting in my car unable to leave without putting on my headset so that I could continue listening on my walk from the parking lot to the office. Jason bourne was my first Ludlum character, but Dr. Smith and his team are fabulous. There is a lot of detail and description and the narrator's cammand of voices and accents makes it very interesting. I was so relieved to find two more from this series in the Audible library. As soon as I finished The Hades factor I went right on line to look for more in this series.
Columbine, Colorado, Jonesboro,Arkansas and Virginia Tech have all given us an opinion about this kind of teen violence. No doubt the children involved in those situations were sick. Jodi takes us inside the minds of people intimately involved in the life of a child that has been the "butt" of the "cool" kids jokes. This book should be required reading for all involved in the education of our children, teachers, mothers and fathers alike. Wouldn't this be great for a PTA meeting discussion.
So, I love the book. I am a Jodi fan. Her style of telling a story is not unique, but she holds my attention and being more of a mystery reader(listener), she has just enough intrigue to keep me curious about the ending.
The structure of the story, going between "then" and "now" was not distracting for me as I have read in some of the other reviews.
So far I have read three of Jodi's books. All about the issues that our teens are wrestling with and all giving us an inside look at what might be going on around them and in their heads.
This is an awesome listen and a fabulous story. This is my third book by this author and I want more. The author takes our modern day issues and personalizes them in a way that provokes great thought. At the same time, she holds your attention with an eliment of mystery. The character development is outstanding and again, the writing style she has chosen to create the characters will really make you feel that you are walking in their shoes.
