"Great insight into a fascinating election"
I have been following John Heilemann since I saw him on Real Time with Bill Maher last year. I appreciate his work, and Game Change lived up to all my expectations. The election was fascinating, viewed through the mass media lens. It is ten times more fascinating viewed through the eyes of the people that are on the bus, in the meetings, and rubbing shoulders with the candidates.
"Voice talent is to audio books............"
Voice talent is to audio books, what location is to real estate. Unfortunately this is a great house, in a bad neighborhood. I am going to have to fall back on the paper back. Sorry, Barbara, but you should leave the reading to the professionals.
"A sad story about a great American"
I can see how those that lean right might find it a little grating, but I think Krakauer was attempting to tell the story from the Tillman family perspective. The book illustrates beautifully how they were used, manipulated and lied to! There is no denying Tillman’s courage in giving up the good life to serve his country was exploited by the Bush administration, but the cover-up and the damage control in the face of a close election was deplorable.
"Listen to the ASAP"
In a time when the professional journalism is under serious attack from it own obvious failing and ineptitude during the Bush administrations attack on Iraq, and the more recent economic meltdown, it is nice to see Thomas Friedman stand up and be counted. We know that the topic of climate change, has been hijacked for political gain and it has become somewhat of a hot potato for real journalists to tackle. Friedman tackles this subject ferociously! He is not an arm chair warrior that relies solely on the Internet he loves so much, but rather goes to the source of the story to see for himself, and to speak to those that know more than him. He gained my respect with "The Lexus and the Olive Branch" and "The world is flat". He has earned my admiration with Hot, Flat and Crowded"! Friedman always digs in deep, hits you with news so troubling it makes you want to dive off a cliff in despair, but he also offers up a way out. It is not an easy way out, but with hope we stand a chance. Read this book before Nov 4th! If you can still mark your X next to the party of "Drill Baby Drill" seek professional help FAST.
"A must read before Nov 4th!"
I have always been a fan of Friedman's journalism and writing. He works hard at his trade, and spends many hours flying to remote parts of the world to research the subject matter and see things for himself first hand. He is exhaustive in his fact checking and is rarely discredited because he was lazy and did not do the leg work required by great journalists. He is able to leverage his own celebrity to get the interviews with world leaders and titan’s of business other do not, and is astute enough to ask meaningful questions, and not just pock around the edges.
Everyone should read this book before walking into a polling booth on Nov 4th! It truly makes a mockery of the rally cry 'drill baby drill'!
