"Something here really stinks to high heaven," writes Erich von Däniken. "In Twilight of the Gods," says von Däniken, "I document precisely what it was that left the first visitors breathless as they stood before the mighty stone blocks some 400 years ago. I will show you what archeologists discovered hundreds of years ago and demonstrate how much has been destroyed over the centuries. Intentionally.

If you're familiar with history and cultures around the world, this is definitely a very good read. It gives you a different point of view on how to see the world. It might be a little much for some people, but it's up to the reader on how to interpret it. Either way it's still a wonderful research and collection of stories.

From the beginning of his career in the 1960s, Ram Dass' retreats and lectures have been meticulously recorded and archived. Experiments in Truth is an historic collection of this legendary teacher's most important recordings. Join this pioneer of engaged spirituality for eight inspiring lectures, each one an indelible masterpiece of humor and insight about the spiritual journey today.

The way Ram Dass tells his stories is so entertaining. If you're already familiar with meditation, hinduism, buddhism, etc, then you will enjoy this book. He tells everything from his point of view and how he came to be who he is now. At the same time he talks about the different methods to achieve enlightenment. I've listened to the audiobook twice already and I've learned something new.

I found the instructions on the breathing exercise extremely helpful and descriptive. The same goes for the other methods to meditating.

When Autobiography of a Yogi first appeared in 1946, it was acclaimed as a landmark work in its field. The New York Times hailed it as "a rare account". Newsweek pronounced it "fascinating". The San Francisco Chronicle declared, "Yogananda presents a convincing case for yoga, and those who 'came to scoff' may remain 'to pray." Today it is still one of the most widely read and respected books ever published on the wisdom of the East.

I have been curious about all the things I hear from India, and have wonder what Yoga was all about. I started out with this book, and it really does open up a whole new world. Being born from the east, I have seen and heard many mystical things. But, after growing up in the west, I have started to forget all those and even started denying some of them.

This book helped me see the world from 'that' point of view again. It has also opened up a whole new world for me. I'm glad that all of these information are now available in audio form.

For those of you who are curious to learn more about Kriya, you might want to listen to The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam Explained (also by Paramahansa Yogananda), there is also Experiments in Truth (by Ram Dass). You will find some tips as to how it's done.

If you read a lot of startup-related books then this might not be for you, most of it you'll already have known. But, if you're curious about 37 Signals and how small start-ups work, grab this book.

Most of us want to succeed. And most of us want to do the right thing. But we often forget that the way tosucceed is by doing the right thing, as Barry Schwartz and Kenneth Sharpe remind us in Practical Wisdom: The Right Way to Do the Right Thing. When the institutions that shape our society need to change, the people in them typically either make more rules or offer smarter incentives.

This was a great book. I think everyone should read this. Society has been deteriorating because of lack of practical wisdom. I've noticed it myself, pretty much everyday, people relying on rules and regulations instead of their brains and what they know is right. There should be classes in school teaching practical wisdom.

It's about an hour long. I'm sure not that much is known about Leonardo, that's why this book is very short. I found it to be a really good primer, it gave me a glimpse of how Da Vinci's personality might have been and how he is as a person.

  • A Concise History of the Middle East, Ninth Edition

The ninth edition of this widely acclaimed text has been extensively revised to reflect the latest scholarship and the most recent events in the Middle East. As an introduction to the history of this turbulent region from the beginnings of Islam to the present day, the book is distinguished by its clear style, broad scope, and balanced treatment.

    Story

I felt that a good deal of the book was the author saying which chapter more details are located. For example "I will talk more about this or that on this chapter" and "as you may recall in chapter bla bla bla". There was so much of this going on that I had to stop listening to it.

I finally did manage to get myself to finish the book. It's a good primer for middle east history, which is what I was looking for. However, I would like it told more as a fluid story, not like a text book telling you to turn in this or that chapter.
