I downloaded this book one week prior to my trip to India. I listened to it the entire way around the country. I finished it a few days prior to reaching Mumbai. I retraced his path through Mumbai and actually stayed at the India Hotel that he speaks of. His descriptions are so vivid that I felt like I had been to Mumbai before. I actually knocked on the door of the room that he stayed in and hung out with some German tourists.
This is by far the best epic novel that I have ever read or listened to. There is such a cult following of this book. Anybody I meet who has read this novel says the same thing. "when it ended, I was sad that it was over." I later found out that this book is loosely based on a true story. Which makes it much more exciting. I only hope that I find another audiobook as good this one. This is a great audiobook for both men and women. I believe that you are making a mistake by not downloading it.
