Without a doubt, one of the worst books I have ever read. Don't waste your time or money....period!
While I always rate my books, I seldom write a review. However, the amazing qualities of this book deserves one. This by far one of the most enjoyable books I've ever encountered and don't worry about "getting" all the game & movie references, it's not that big a deal relative to the overall story. I'm no youngster, having grown up in the late 60's/early 70's & thoroughly enjoyed it. I've recommended it to others & everyone loved it regardless of age. Wil Wheaton does an incredible job as usual. Bottom line...LISTEN TO THIS BOOK....period
I really wanted to like this book, but couldn't. It is a very densely written, scholarly tome more suited for the classroom than for casual listening. If you want to know everything about this subject, then this is the book for you. However, if you want more of an overview, then look elsewhere.
This is a great book by one of the great popular historians of our day. It's depth of detail and insight into Washington the man makes this a very robust book. However, I felt the author's choice to restrict the book to the events of a single year was too constraining for my taste. For those like me who want to know more, I recommend following 1776 with D.H. Fischer's excellent "Washington's Crossing" that covers the events of late 1776 into early 1777 in detail with very little overlap.
Interesting story line with enough twists & turns to hold your attention all the way through, though you could see a few of them coming from a mile away. The characters are very believable & I will definitely listen to more books by this author. For me, this is a straight ahead action/adventure & I was a little hard pressed to see why Audible includes this title under Science Fiction. Either way, a good read.
