Khaavren of the House of Tiassa is a son of landless nobility, possessor of a good sword and “tolerably well-acquainted with its use.” Along with three loyal friends, he enthusiastically seeks out danger and excitement. But in a realm renowned for repartee and betrayals, where power is as mutable as magic, a young man like Khaavren, newly come from the countryside, had best be wary. His life depends on it. And so does the future of Draegara.

If you could sum up The Phoenix Guards in three words, what would they be?

    Swashbuckling Fantasy Adventure.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Stillwell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I nearly think Kevin Stillwell was exactly the right choice - his narration is outstanding and enhances an already excellent book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A swashbuckling fantasy adventure in the style of the three musketeers.

    Any additional comments?

There is a certain amount of content which regards the nature of history and fiction and the writing thereof. I recomend you expect and enjoy these digressions. If you have not read any of Mr. Brust's novels in the Jhereg series it might be prudent to read at least the first book of that series before starting this series. Although chronologically the events in the pheonx guards occur long before the events in Jhereg.
