Not sure if it was the new reader that thru off the rhythm of the seriers but on first listen it seems to be a combination of both the story development and the reader. Neither were as good as the previous installments but still a decent listen.
First,I love both the the writer and the narrator; however, I was very disappointed in this book. Most of the dialogue seemed to have come from her other books. It wasn't so bad that I wouldn't buy the next book in the series and hopefully it will be more original.
Usually, I adore this pair but the story was flat and soooo predictable. It reminded me of those dime store novellas with interchangeable character names. But I would still get her next book...everyone is entitled to faulter now and again.
I often wonder how long a series can go without just being filler; but I still love this story line. It is fresh, interesting, and you can't help but love the characters.
If you enjoyed watching Leverage and White Collar on Television, and you don't mind that those plot scenarios are regurgitated then you will love this book. Sadly, I do and was disappointed.
What happened? All the things I love about Victoria Laurie's books was MIA in this one. Even rhe narrator, who is usually fantastic, is off. Her voices for the characters all seem to run together and there are just minor tries to add appropriate voice inflictions. Also, MJs character was not the strong stabilizing woman in this book. She was manipulation rationalize and little character development all the was around. I am still a fan and will get the next book and hope this almost complete waste of time was a fluke.
I have all of Debora Geary's books and love them all. With almost all of the books out today, violence and near death are the norm. With these books, they are about family, fun, and solving problems without near and bloody death around every corner. The characters are like people you would know and quirky. GREAT easy reads.
With unlikely protagonist the book was told from a different viewpoint than most books these days...she of over 40 (OMG!) with a sister that keeps levity and trouble brewing. Great beach or pool read.
Info is not bad as a review; however, not all the chapters of the book are included in this audio version. The narrator is awful, but if you can stand the stoic reading...you might find it helpful. Again, not all chapters are included in this recording...There are 27 chapters in the book and only 21 chapters reviewed.
Writen from a male point of view...so refreshing. The story has a good pace and the narrator does an excellent job.
