History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

This story has it all! History, mystery, love, deceit, etc. Especially entertaining was the fact that there were actually 2 stories going on. One surrounding the main character (who was an author) and the other around the historical novel she was writing. Two thumbs up!

In her first novel since 2002, Nebula and Hugo award-winning author Connie Willis returns with a stunning, enormously entertaining novel of time travel, war, and the deeds - great and small - of ordinary people who shape history. In the hands of this acclaimed storyteller, the past and future collideand the result is at once intriguing, elusive, and frightening.

I enjoyed this very much but I feel the author's strength lies in historical fiction rather than science fiction. Wonderful for WWII history buffs!

There's a little shop on Blossom Street in Seattle called A Good Yarn. You go there to buy knitting supplies and patterns, and now it's offering a knitting class. The first lesson: how to knit a baby blanket.

Easy listening; easy-to-follow plot. Fix a cup of coffee/tea and listen while you knit. (Note that knitting knowledge is not essential to enjoy this story!)

Many self-help books offer a lot of new age platitudes and sappy mantras: Just love yourself. See the glass as half full. Really? That’s not how it works, and you know it. A lifetime’s worth of struggle is not overturned in a small moment of positive thinking. But if you have the right attitude - attitude and skills - you can and will accomplish anything and everything you want. This book gives you both, attitude and action. By its end you will have all the tools you need to change your life. No hype. No false promises....

Fantastic advice for someone striving to live life to the fullest! No, she's not a psychotherapist but the info is grounded in basic psychology and (as with all her books) she writes them with the help of experts in the field. (Deeper problems and issues can't be dealt with by reading a book but can open one's eyes to aid in defining weaknesses and seeking help when/if necessary.) This is a great guide for reaching for the stars!

Deep in the British Library tucked into the slipcover of a book on the history of Blenheim Palace a packet of extraordinary letters has been discovered. "Dear Marengo brackets Napoleon's horse close brackets, I've never written a letter like this before…. "Thus begins the first passionate letter from Copenhagen, the Duke of Wellington's horse, to his hero Marengo in this epistolary equine love story.

I thought I was getting this for my 10 year old and myself to enjoy together BUT this is not what I deem appropriate for 10 year old ears! Glad I listened to it first. Funny, clever and I could listen to Stephen Fry all day.

Just finished this book with my 10 year old son. He loved the story but I really wish a professional would have been hired to do the narration. I had a bit of difficulty enjoying L'Engle's award winning book due to her strong NY accent and some sort of "smacking" sound she would make at the beginning of new sentence. (I didn't notice the smacking until the middle of the book. After that, my son commented on it as well.)
