"Too many questions in dialogue"
This was the most depressing and deflating book I have ever listened to. The dialogue was filled with question upon question. Half of the the sentences were questions. Dane did a decent job as narrator, but the story was one huge bummer.
"The puzzle is now complete"
I have been gobbling up books about this period in time so I can understand completely what happened and why. This book completed the puzzle. It is a long book, but because I had a good understanding of who the characters were in the Nazi story and what parts they played, I appreciated the added details this book offered. I'm not sure this book would appeal to those who are new to the subject. Thank you William Shirer for wading through all the German documents and presenting this masterpiece.
"Fun characters, enjoyable story"
This book reminded me of a Stephen King story. The characters were likable and fun with relaxed dialog. It was hard to put the book down. The concept was a bit wacky, but it didn't distract from my enjoyment. I will read this book again in a few years.
"Couldn't put it down"
Incredible story with rich descriptions and characterizations. Shohreh Aghdashloo is an incredible narrator with a deep voice that added to the richness of the experience. I was transported to a different world and time.
"One of the best"
Yes, I will listen again in a year or two.
The last couple of lines made me howl with laughter, but the whole book was great.
Never listened to her books before.
I wasn't sure about the story and had a completely different reaction to the characters as the story unfolded. First, I didn't like Amy. Later I was on Amy's side. But THEN, bam, I figured out where the story was headed and was in complete shock. I couldn't put the book down. Toward the end I was sure I had the outcome all figured out, but I didn't. But seriously, the last two lines of the book made me laugh and howl with delight.
I recommend this book highly. I have listened to many audiobooks and this is one of the best so far. It was chilling with surprises at every turn. Look out Fatal Attraction, there's a new girl in town.
"Complete Mess"
What a waste of a credit. And I can't get my money back. I listened for 5 hours and I have had enough abuse. Narration poor, story line..ehhh, just a complete mess. I will have to do more research on books in the future other than reviews on audible.com. Run from this book....it stinks.
"Which part was missing????"
Just finished the book yesterday. I don't want to re-read the whole book. Please someone, which part was missing???
"Good book, depressing characters"
I wanted to read a Faulkner book and this was on sale. The story was interesting, but a bit depressing. I finished the book and was happy when it was over. In the end, every action has a reaction, for the good or for the bad. This is what I walked away with. Racism and hatred hurts everyone in the end. Faulkner's writing is like poetry and this kept me going till the end.
"I would read this again."
.
I love Geraldine Brooks. I read "Year of Wonders" and was hooked on this author. She is also the narrator in that book as well. Geraldine is a superb author and, quite frankly, her voice soothes me. It does. I learned much about Islam and the dark under belly of that religion, but also the lives of women in the Middle East. Geraldine is my favorite author to day
"Fabulous story"
I recommend this book highly. It made me laugh and cry and feel just about every emotion possible. The characters are well designed and the whole story is creatively written. Descriptions in the book took me to the places written about and I could envision each character to a "t". Beautiful book, beautiful story.
