"For you my friend, a thousand times over"
This book is written and read in the precise way it should have been. No blemishes. It is superb.
The book is not a lesson in Afghan history or Islam. If one is searching for a history lesson embedded in a good plot this is not the book. This is a story, a novel. A classic, gripping, engrossing story full of powerful characters. It will touch your soul and do not be surprised if you quietly wipe a tear or two during the listen as I did. Also, do not be surprised if you chuckle aloud while listening. The story is about a privileged weakling in Kabul and how he grows up with a moral burden, migrates to US and finally returns and to redeem himself. A folk hero like father, his servants son as a friend, a local bully and an immigrant Afghani General the characters are interesting and events around them thought provoking. All scenes in the book including the kite battles are well written. I could visualize everything and see it like a movie.
This was a good listen even through it did not fall under the genera of books I usually listen to. It was also a surprise as after a long time a non-thriller was so compelling and absorbing.
Go ahead. This book is for all taste buds. My favorite phrase form the book: For you my friend, a thousand times over.
"Action thriller. No Plot"
A Mediocre plot. Well described action. Not a book that will make you skip a TV show to listen but also not a one that you will give up.
If you like the sound of guns in a book you can choose this one. If you like mystery, thrill of suspense. Skip this.
"As good as ever"
If you have read Michael Connelly before, this is easy. This is as good as it can get. Real Joy. Choose it without hesitation. If you are new to Connelly, do not worry too much. Choose it. It is an awesome thriller. It is an Harry Bosch book!
"Error in the summary"
There is a mistake here. This book is a about a young girl who disappears and her fathers hunt for her. Quite a thriller. Very good characters. Father is a car salesman. The summary that appears on the Audible site seems to be for some other book! Audible can remove this review if they fix the problem!
"Mediocre"
A poor plot. Extremely poorly crafted characters. No real suspense. minor thrills. No legal stuff. Do not bother with this one.
"Difficult"
To be downloaded only if you have some basic understanding of Mahabharata. Make a list of characters and their roles which is the last chapter or from wikipedia before you embark on this adventure. And one has to remember this in the abridged Mahabharata. It will just give you an overview of the world longest poetry. Avoid this if you do not want to take some strain in listening. This book is not for relaxing and enjoying.
"My Mistake"
My mistake. I got misguided by the 4.19 rating from other readers. This a police procedural story. Limited twist, limited turns, no u turns....mainly a single track book with very less traffic! I will not read or listen to Robb again.
"Still Good...but not the best"
Not his best. But still good enough for a constant smile, suspense and a few LOL!
"James Hadley Chase"
A little different from the normal Connelly. But a classic. It is a crime thriller which reminded me a lot of James Hadley Chase. Prefect thrills. No disappointments! edge of the seat 70% of the time. Go ahead and choose this one.
"Trash from a master"
From a genius such mediocre stuff is not acceptable. It is bad by any standard. Get any self improvement book. Dale Carnegie is 100 times better then this trash from a brilliant man!
"Nothing Special"
It is nothing special. It did not bore me. I smiled about 15 times, laughed aloud 3 times and frowned and grimaced the rest of the time while driving from Durban to Johannesburg while listening to this a part of the way.
