I'm amazed that anyone is offended by the language in the book. The title has the word "bitch" IN IT (duh).
But truly, the book was inspiring to me. I've been juicing, eating tons of greens and fruits for only 4 days now. I "cheat" for dinner a bit (will slowly work my way into going full-force-health fanatic - if ever. :)...and i feel GREAT. I feel really, really GREAT. My eyes are wide awake and my mid-day headaches stopped immediately. I will take what I want from this book, as I think anyone should from any information source and make my own decisions about my diet. The book instructs "trust only yourself", and I agree.
I do feel the meat industry is much to "in bed" with government policy. I do agree our greed for meat is pushed on us by the meat industry. Our animals ARE treated cruelly (though I still had a BLT yesterday for dinner). I am doing what I can and not feeling guilty about it. I think people are so offended by this book because they can't handle feeling bad about certain truths.
The most important point of the book is that our health is at stake. On that I agree completely. There's nothing like fresh, clean produce and active awareness of one's body's needs, etc.
I hope my review helps. I definitely recommend this book. It speaks very basic, crucial truths that everyone should start becoming aware of or reminded of.
This is a beautifully told, love-filled story. It is exactly what being a beautiful human being can strive for, having a real human life while dealing with the true cruelties of existence. I was touched by Ms. Beck's story. I was raised Mormon and am no longer a member, however it has lifted so many veils of confusion I still sensed but could not explain about where I came from and why my parents were who they were. I feel like I am now part of what is probably Beck's invisible circle of comrads. i'd love to thank her in person for leaving me feeling full of love and understanding for myself, my parents and mormons, and in fact, all people.
I am teaching an art class for children in crisis (homeless, abused, or both). One of my goals was to find a short guided meditation to do with the children first, to relax them and make them feel special and whole before we began a creative art-making exercise. I found this 'Mermaids and Fairy Dust' audio cd and it is PERFECT! I have listened to several of the meditions and found myself following along. I could and would listen to this for my own use/relaxation. Not just for kids, this cd is a wonderful tool to open one's mind to being calm, open, centered and especially open to creativity afterward! Yay! A real find.
I am really surprised at how profound this body of writing is. I really think it has changed the way I think about myself and life. It has the approach of self-love and understanding that unites us to our consciousness in a tender, powerful way. No one has a perfect upbringing, I'm sure, but this shows you, in a way, how to be the perfect loving parent and friend to yourself that creates the clear-cut path to personal healing, growth, and wholeness without ANY kind of sacrifice. Amazing. I'm amazed by this!...Also, the author's voice is just wonderful, a pleasure to listen to.
