Daniel Silva delivers another spectacular thriller starring Gabriel Allon, The English Girl. When a beautiful young British woman vanishes on the island of Corsica, a prime minister’s career is threatened with destruction. Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, is thrust into a game of shadows where nothing is what it seems...and where the only thing more dangerous than his enemies might be the truth.…

Daniel Silva has gone back to writing a good story - but oh, the narrator was so totally wrong! I found it hard to define Gabriel Allon from the 'baddie's'!! Why or why do you pick a narrator that is not 'clear', that only mumbles or takes a breath mid sentence - very annoying?
I have all of Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon audio books and paperback books plus a lot of his other stories and I can tell you George Guidall is NOT the one to read them.
I suffered George Guidall reading The Fallen Angel but I will think twice if you use the same narrator for future Daniel Silva books!

And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.

    Story

This is a well written, well researched story, but it is sad and very real, I realise this touches a lot of peoples lives!
I feel there should be some sort of warning so that readers now it is mostly about taking your own life but also about changing another persons belief in themselves.
Maybe this story is too close to home for me as I have a grandchild with a very serious heart problem!!
I wish that I had known more of what this story was about before I had purchased it!
I have to say that I was very reluctant to listen all the way to end but I did, it ended with a bitter sweet note but oh, how I wish I had never bought this story..

Phryne Fisher, scented and surprisingly ruthless, is not one to let sleuthing a horrific crime get in the way of an elegant dalliance. The redoubtable Phryne Fisher is holidaying at Cave House, a Gothic mansion in the heart of the Victorian mountain country. But the peaceful country surroundings mask danger. Her host is receiving death threats, lethal traps are set without explanation around the house and the parlour maid is found strangled to death.

Where does The Xmas Factor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Xmas Factor is a truly brilliant story 10 out of 10, I loved it from the very start.

What did you like best about this story?

It is so appealing, I totally love the Christmas story with a different spin on it - wonderful story telling.

Have you listened to any of Kim Hicks’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Kim Hicks performance, I don't have other stories read by her yet but she is going to be one of my favourite narrators to be sure.

If you could take any character from The Xmas Factor out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Why it would have to be Nick, even though I don't know much about how to play music, he sounds just so gentle, caring and funny.

    Any additional comments?

I have listened to this story 4 times so far and it's still only November!!! It's well worth another listen, I live in Australia and it brings "home" to me as I am British. Love it!!!!

After narrowly surviving his last operation, Gabriel Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, has taken refuge behind the walls of the Vatican, where he is restoring one of Caravaggio's greatest masterpieces. But early one morning he is summoned to St. Peter's Basilica by Monsignor Luigi Donati, the all-powerful private secretary to his Holiness Pope Paul VII. The body of a beautiful woman lies broken beneath Michelangelo's magnificent dome.

What made the experience of listening to The Fallen Angel the most enjoyable?

I was so looking forward to hearing the Fallen Angel as I have read the book and have all of Daniel Silva's books and audio books he is such a great story teller, but was very disappointed with the narrator!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of George Guidall?

John Lee is the best narrator of Gabriel Allon stories (or any books for that matter), close 2nd is Phil Gigante, definitely NOT George Guidall his voice was the same for the all the characters, he spoke too fast, this was not a good listen!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The narrator made such a bad job of reading this brilliant book that I was very disappointed, to the stage of returning the audio book until someone else is reading it.

    Any additional comments?

In future if I see George Guidall's name as narrator I will not purchase the book!

Bea treads carefully on the thick carpet, quite deliberately like a servant. Her elder sister, Clemmie, tells her that it is "not done" to worry about being heard but Bea enjoys this oh-so-silent rebellion against convention. She teases back, "This is the twentieth century, Clem, things are about to change." London, 1914.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narrator is not very inspiring! The story seemed confusing probably because the narration was not that clear to define the characters. I don't often get an audio book that I'm not happy with, but this one definitely was not a good listen.Given the title of this book I was looking forward to a good listen but alas no!

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Mystery

What didn’t you like about Jane Collingwood’s performance?

Monotonous voice, no definition between characters.

What character would you cut from Park Lane?

No idea, I didn't finish listening to it.

    Any additional comments?

It maybe a good book to read; I might think about it again if another narrator was reading it!

What made the experience of listening to Death By Water the most enjoyable?

Stephanie Daniel is an extraordinary narrator, she has the wonderful talent of making you "see" the characters. Her voice is just so right for narration.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death By Water?

When Phryne meets Scragger in her bedroom on board ship, they say cats are intuitive about people.

What does Stephanie Daniel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Stephanie brings the whole story to life, one does'nt get the right intanation on the words of the era when reading a book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I definitely could have sat listening to the whole story, its like chocolate you want to save some for later, I like things to look forward to.

    Any additional comments?

I am a fan of the Miss Fisher Mysteries on TV. I will be downloading some more Phryne Fisher stories quite zoo from Audible.
