  • Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror

The real war on terror has happened largely behind closed doors, run by the White House, drawing on secret intelligence and operations around the world. There is no man who knows more about it than Richard Clarke, the former Counterterrorism Czar for both George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, the man who has led our efforts against al Qaeda and all other terrorist enemies for years.

Paul Michael says: "Your Government At Work"
    "against all enemies"
    Overall

Richard Clarke's account of his many years serving our country is riveting and scary. He was the only sane person on 9-11. Now that he has disagreed with the bush administration, he has been trashed. Believe him, he has been followed by many other ex-bush people and I believe every single word of what he says.

Police cruisers line her street and slumped in a car at the end of Maura's driveway is a dead woman, her head bloodied by a gunshot wound. Cops and neighbors gape at her as she approaches. In his final hours in the Oval Office, the outgoing President grants a controversial last-minute pardon to Joel Backman, a notorious Washington power broker who has spent the last six years hidden away in a federal prison. What no one knows is that the President issues the pardon only after receiving enormous pressure from the CIA. It seems Backman, in his power broker heyday, may have obtained secrets that compromise the world's most sophisticated satellite surveillance system.

    Overall

John Grisham is about a 5 out of 6'er. That is 5 out of every 6 books he writes are simply fantastic. The other is a clinker or a sell out. The broker is very exciting and brings us out of the courtroom to Italy. One of our favorite places in the entire world. We could picture every street every restaurant every place in Italy that we have visited. A great idea to have the story take place in an area that many of us are familiar with. The story itself is very strong and we enjoyed it very much and we hope that unlike his previous works he will bring back the central character again.

A woman is found murdered in the woods with a very special watch on her wrist, and what seemed a simple case soon escalates into a nightmare. The criminal methods of some of the most infamous killers of all time are being replicated by a new predator who stalks and strikes victims with a cunning brilliance. No one can understand the murderer's motives or who the next victim will be.

David Baldacci is growing into one of our favorite writers. Currently is books seem to run in streaks. One great one and one far from great. this is one of those great books. Continuing with characters from a previous book that was indeed one of his best. It is a wonderful exciting whodunit and we loved it. Want more from David just like this one and still feel he has not been able to out do the Millionaire.... can't wait for more.

In Berlin, a woman vanishes from the city streets. In Paris, a man plunges from the Eiffel Tower. In Denver, a small plane crashes into the mountains. In Manhattan, a body washes ashore from the East River. At first these seem to be random incidents, but the police soon discover that all four of the victims are connected to Kingsley International Group (KIG), the largest think tank in the world.

Lori A. Wersinger says: "Another good one"
"Missed you Sidney Your almost 80! More!!."

We have long been fans of Sidney Sheldon, dating back to his very first book....25 years ago? It has been so long in coming and we absolutely loved it. It follows his wonderful formula of back and forth and putting all the pieces together. We sure hope he has a few more in him very soon and may he live to 120!

Thirty-five years ago, Mario Puzo's great American tale, The Godfather, was published, and popular culture was indelibly changed. Now, in The Godfather Returns, acclaimed novelist Mark Winegardner continues the story, the years not covered in Puzo's best-selling book or in Francis Ford Coppola's classic films.

Janet C. Walker says: "Puzo lives"
    "Disappointed!"
    Overall

I couldn't wait to read this book. I found it drawn out and not very much going on, very wordy until the beginning of the last book of 3. Disappointing when compared to the Puzo stuff. Wanted it to be great and it wasn't.

While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, a baffling cipher found near the body. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, sort through the bizarre riddle, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci, clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Everything it promised and more. Who would have thought that we would like a "religious" themed book. But we loved it so very much. It was exciting from page to page and now we cannot wait to travel to France and the UK to see the very places that were written about. #1 for 2004

When Chaz Perron's wife discovers that he is running a scam (posing as a marine biologist to doctor water samples so that an agribusiness tycoon can continue illegally dumping fertilizer into the Everglades), he pushes her overboard from a cruise liner. Unlucky for Chaz, Joey survives clutching a bale of Jamaican pot. Simply one of the best books of 2004. As a Floridian, we loved that it took place in areas that we know very well. It is funny as well as a wonderful story about revenge to the nth degree. Can't wait for more from Mr. Hiassen. He has waited too long to please us again.Don't miss it.
