I don't understand why this book is being ignored by downloaders??? Author David Levien has created an outstanding lead character in Frank Behr. He is a throw-back to the unrepentant bad-@$$ tough guys of the past, but with a modern edge (I love the Brazilian jiu-jitsu angle). Behr is the kind of dude that we all wish really existed and were on our side. Behr is as complex and interesting as my favorite cop/private eyes (Bosch, Robicheaux, & Cole). This book and its predecessor, City of the Sun, are on par with some of the best crime novels of the last few years. Levien's skills aren't quite yet in the same class as Michael Connelly, James Lee Burke, and Robert Crais, but he's on the same campus.

This writer is a star in the making. I love the lead character! His second book (Where The Dead Lay) is even better. Trust me...ignore the negative review and download both books. If you like hard-boiled detective novels you will love Levien's work.

I have to admit that I often steer clear of some women authors because they sometimes portray the men in their books as sex-oholic morons. Before you ladies go off, let me say that I also understand why you are hesitant to read/listen to books that portray women as weaklings or air-heads. Well, Linda Howard provides the best to both worlds. She seems to always find a way to write books that appeal to both sexes. Dream Man has a great mixture... Its part police procedural (appreciated by the guys), part supernatural thriller (appreciated by the ladies), and part romantic sex-capade (adored by all).

Boys Will Be Boys was the finest sports book I've ever heard/read. The authors research and presentation were excellent. I am an avid football fan and I consider myself a quasi historian of the game. Yet, on numerous occasions I found myself listening to facts that I'd never heard before. The story itself was so hard to pull away from that I would have listened to it in one sitting if I had the time. It is so interesting that you don't have to like sports at all and you would still love this book. I actually think that people that don't follow the game would probably receive the most satisfaction because they wouldn't know the end result of the many great characters in this book. In this case, truth is more interesting than fiction.

One caveat though... The narrator was pitiful!!! He obviously had zero knowledge of the game of football nor of any of the Dallas Cowboys. The guy should have done SOME research into how to pronounce the characters names. It was very distracting because I knew the correct pronunciations. I found myself talking back to my IPod trying to correct the dude. Don't get me wrong... When he wasn't mispronouncing names his work was good. He has a good narrators voice, but he constantly jacked up names. In spite of that this was still a 5 star book. If you download it you will not regret it.

The Watchman was outstanding! Robert Crais is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I was initially concerned with how short his books are, but I have come to realize that he is not short-changing his readers at all. He simply produces fast-paced, intelligent, and fun to read thrillers. I'm glad he devoted a book solely to Joe Pike. Pike reads a little like Dirty Harry with a soul. To bad the world doesn't have many "real" guys just like him.

James Lee Burke and Will Patton are by far the finest pairing of author and narrator that I have every listened to. Burke's writing gets better with each book. In Swan Peak he continued to keep Dave and Clet their usual "hell raising" selves, while also introducing new and complex characters. This book was just as great as Pegasus Descending and The Tin Roof Blow Down, my favorite JLB works. Patton is so perfectly suited to read the Robicueax novels that it was truly difficult for me to listen to any of the older books in the series because they were performed by a different narrator. I wish that he could start at the beginning and reread every title in the series.

This was a very weak audio book. The story line was well researched, but far fetched. The worst part of the book was the narration. It was so bad that I was sure that the publisher had used a "nobody" to read it. I was shocked to find out that the narrator is considered one of the best. If that is the case, he didn't bring his A game to this project.
