Though they have the vote and the Pill and haven't been burned as witches since 1727, life isn't exactly a stroll down the catwalk for modern women. They are beset by uncertainties and questions: Why are they supposed to get Brazilians? Why do bras hurt? Why the incessant talk about babies? And do men secretly hate them? Caitlin Moran interweaves provocative observations on women's lives with laugh-out-loud funny scenes from her own, from adolescence to her development as a writer, wife, and mother.

What does Caitlin Moran bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice. The stories she tells and the new wave of feminism she is proclaiming somehow becomes even more meaningful and hilarious at the same time with her tone and perfectly timed exclamations. The British accent doesn't hurt when hearing why she prefers to call her breasts "tits" and why women should stop shaving their "muffs."

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    YES!

    Any additional comments?

Caitlin Moran is my new hero.

When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world's most powerful internet company, she feels she's been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users' personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. As Mae tours the open-plan office spaces, the towering glass dining facilities, the cozy dorms for those who spend nights at work, she is thrilled with the company's modernity and activity.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the book made you think about where society is headed. It presents the good and evil of progress and how far humanity may go to try to perfect itself and its systems.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I was intrigued by the various characters and Mae's next moves.

    Any additional comments?

I highly recommend listening to The Circle. Dion Graham continues to be one of my favorite narrators and Eggers tops the list of authors and storytellers for me. This book will definitely make you think about how you use the internet and social media and presents a view of a future that is not all that far fetched.

The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone - and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after just a few days on the job, Clay begins to realize that this store is even more curious than the name suggests. There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....
