Mixing a bit of seventeenth-century French history with a great deal of invention, Alexandre Dumas tells the tale of young D'Artagnan and his musketeer comrades, Porthos, Athos, and Aramis. Together they fight to foil the schemes of the brilliant, dangerous Cardinal Richelieu, who pretends to support the king while plotting to advance his own power. Bursting with swirling swordplay, swooning romance, and unforgettable figures.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely...not that there weren't any slow spots, but I could've never imagined being that engages to an audio book 24 hours long from beginning to end.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was itself just such a great tale of conquest and chivalry. It was so fascinating to hate the villains and love the heroes like this book compels you to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Very engaging but I'm not sure anything is 24 hours in one sitting engaging....lol.

The Unicorn says that humans are brought to Narnia only in time of greatest need, and that time is now. The great Lion Aslan, the heart of Narnia, is missing. An impostor roams the land in his place, enslaving Aslan's loyal creatures and spreading treachery and lies. Only King Tirian and his small band of loyal followers are left to fight the last battle in this magnificent ending to The Chronicles of Narnia.

Bryan J. Peterson says: "A bittersweet conclusion."

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Battle to be better than the print version?

    Not better...not worse.

What other book might you compare The Last Battle to and why?

Lord of the Rings or the other Chronicles

Which character – as performed by Patrick Stewart – was your favorite?

I'm not sure I had a favorite in this particular story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The beginning of the end...or something like that.

    Any additional comments?

Behind Prince Caspian it was my least favorite of the Chronicles.

This true modern masterpiece is built around the two fateful words that make up the title and herald the end - “Alas, Babylon.” When a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness....

Where does Alas, Babylon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Its a top 10.

What other book might you compare Alas, Babylon to and why?

It's different than any other book I've read. Just a different tone and genre than any other story I've read.

What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He gives a good voice to the story. He fits the characters some how. Maybe its because of his accent.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I made myself break it up. I use audio books for workouts.

    Any additional comments?

This is a guy story if ever there was one. A man who survives disaster and must keep his family and friends alive through adversity...great story. It also makes you wonder how close the Cold War got!

  • The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes, Volume 1

First appearing in print in 1890, the character of Sherlock Holmes has now become synonymous worldwide with the concept of a super sleuth. His creator, Conan Doyle, imbued his detective hero with intellectual power, acute observational abilities, a penchant for deductive reasoning and a highly educated use of forensic skills. Indeed, Doyle created the first fictional private detective who used what we now recognize as modern scientific investigative techniques.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Holmes. He's a cool character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I really like the stories. I use this collection as filler. When I haven't decided what I want to listen to next I'll listen to a couple of these stories because each one is relatively short and they're entertaining.

There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

What about Christopher Lee’s performance did you like?

    He was a fantastic narrator.

Did The Children of Hurin inspire you to do anything?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

The overall story is just a little depressing and at times a little boring.

  • Ender's Game: Special 20th Anniversary Edition

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

What did you love best about Ender's Game?

The story is incredible. It is such an engaging, captivating story. Plus, the world that OSC creates it just fascinating.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ender's Game?

His arrival in battle school and the final battle are probably the two biggest moments in the book.

What about Stefan Rudnicki and Harlan Ellison ’s performance did you like?

I loved the way the audio book uses multiple people without it being distracting or annoying. Multiple narrators can sometimes be over done. It added to the story without distracting you from it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I made myself break it up.

Andrew "Ender" Wiggin was not the only child in the Battle School; he was just the best of the best. In this book, Card tells the story of another of those precocious generals, the one they called Bean, the one who became Ender's right hand, part of his team, in the final battle against the Buggers. Bean's past was a battle just to survive. His success brought him to the attention of the Battle School's recruiters.

Would you consider the audio edition of Ender's Shadow to be better than the print version?

Not better, but its a great presentation of a book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Even though this is Bean's book, I still can help but feel that Ender is still my favorite character.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The variety of the voices and the use of them with the different characters was good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's a great book. I definitely find myself laughing at times...looking at the world from the perspective of a super-genious, it definitely makes you crack up at times.
