In the Sudan, decades of brutal misgovernment by the ruling Egyptian Khedive in Cairo precipitate a fierce and bloody rebellion and Holy War headed by a charismatic new religious leader, The Madhi or “Expected One.” The British are forced to intervene to protect their national interests and to attempt to rescue the hundreds of British subjects stranded in the country.

Would you consider the audio edition of Triumph of the Sun to be better than the print version?

Did not read the print version

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Captain Pembroke

What does Tim Pigott-Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The flair of the english language and the fanatisism of Islamic Extremists

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but impossible because Smith is epic in his stories that last for at least a generation in time.

    Any additional comments?

Read it or listen to it. Wilbur Smith is intoxicatingly brilliant and a genious.

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July, 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

Mike says: "Enthralling and authentic story of valor in combat"
"Outstanding story of how our Navy Seals are molded"
    Overall

The United States Navy Seals are among the most elite warriors on our planet. This story gives you a glimpse into the tremendous skills, resiliency and unbreakable brotherhood that makes these quiet assassins so very special. If you are a red blooded American you will laugh, get angry and even cry. If you are a left wing liberal, you should read this book so you begin to understand that these selfless men are getting killed because they are afraid to go to prison for defending our country when everyone there fighting against them is trying to kill them and hates Americas more than you could ever imagine. It describes how the liberal media in the United States has made our brave warriors look like criminals who are killing innocent women and children intentionally. Because of this fear that they always hold in the back of their minds as they engage an enemy, These incredible men have to increase the likelihood of their demise because they must wait to be fired upon first before engaging. It makes me sick and so angry. Our own media is working for our enemies and cares more about the terrorists rights then they do our own warriors including: Navy SEALs, Green Berets, Army Rangers and all of the special forces that this country depends on so dearly to keep us all safe. You all should be ashamed of yourselves!!!!!
