A paradise parish of cobbled streets and timber-framed houses, and a huge, haunted vicarage were not what the Revd Merrily Watkins ever had in mind. Nor had she wanted to walk into a local dispute over a play about a curious 17th century cleric accused of witchcraft, a story that certain old-established families would rather remained in obscurity. But this is Ledwardine, steeped in cider and secrets.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I enjoy Mr Rickman's books, having quite a few of the paperbacks on my shelves. However I could not extend this to this particular audio book. I found the narrator did not have sufficient variation in her voice to differentiate the characters and found myself "rewinding" or having to listen very closely in an attempt to discern which character was supposedly saying what.

Would you be willing to try another book from Phil Rickman? Why or why not?

As mentioned, I have enjoyed reading a number of the books in the past, so I would be willing to try another book, if another narrator was employed with clearer distinctions between characters.

What three words best describe Rebecca Lacey’s performance?

clear diction, but insufficient tonal variety to differentiate characters.

Was The Wine of Angels worth the listening time?

    yes, worth the time.

15 thriller masters. 1 masterful thriller! Former war crimes investigator Harold Middleton possesses a previously unknown score by Frederic Chopin. But he is unaware that, within it's handwritten notes, lies a secret that now threatens the lives of thousands of Americans. As he races from Poland to the U.S. to uncover the mystery of the manuscript, Middleton will be accused of murder, pursued by federal agents, and targeted by assassins.

    Any additional comments?

Every and every chapter was well-written. However as each writer took the overall story on their own journey, it ended up a bit disjointed imho. Alfred Molina's performance was superb - just the right emphasis in just the right places, voices which differentiated the characters, etc etc. I am sure others better qualified than I could provide more superbola.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend to either an ardent Doctor Who fan, or an admirer of Anthony Head's work.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It was a long build up to a short unsatisfactory ending with a few loose ends needing tying up.

What about Anthony Head’s performance did you like?

An eloquent performance with just the right amount of dramatic inflection to keep the story interesting.

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Would you listen to Hounded again? Why?

I thoroughly enjoyed both the story, which was original and humourous, and the narration. The words and delivery of the thoughts of Oberon (the Irish wolfhound) had me chuckling in the middle of a crowded train! A definite keeper, and looking forward to the rest of the series.
