I love McCall Smith's Ladies Detective Agency books and that's why I purchased this title. I was very disappointed in the book as a whole. There was not very much story to it and way too many philosophical ramblings. Also, I was not very interested into the forays about crossword puzzle clues. However, the narrator was excellent, the only saving point to the entire experience.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I normally listen to books while exercising or ironing. I was so enthralled with the story and didn't want to stop listening that I ended up doing all my ironing and my mother's as well.
The characters were excellent and the story line so interesting that I didn't want it to ever end. I'm off to look for more offerings by the author, but before that, I'll listen to it again just because I enjoyed it so much.
I love Alexander McCall Smith's No. 1 Ladies Detective Stories and so I bought this title. Not having enjoyed the Sunday Philosophy Club, I thought that since these tales are based in Africa, more Smith's forte, that they would be enjoyable listening. While the stories were entertaining and the narrators were great, there's no real substance to them. The stories don't stay with you as the Ladies Detective Stories did. Once I finished the book, it was difficult to recall any of the various stories with any kind of clarity.
