The Audio has Stewart and some of his stuff from his show plus S. Weaver that read it. It's funny like his show and I think I will listen to it more than once. The only down side is I had to order a cheap book to look at the pictures from the book. Still listening is enjpyable and I laughed out loud a few tiimes while I worked on computer. It really was a fun look at the Earth.
I think if I had to compare it to another book I would have to go back to an old audio I have of the Hitchhikers to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. And yes it has that weird kind of humor while still passing alone information. Douglas would of loved Steward.
Hitchhakers to the Galaxy or a Big Finnish production, Sorry I am a Sci Fi geek. But it's not science Fiction, It's a like his show.
The parts where he explained things to a aliens set to invade the Earth, I was amuzed
It well done audio book.
Yes, hearing David Tennant wonderful reading of an abridged form of the book is just wonderful, mostly because he is so talented. He makes you believe it's Rose speaking when he is doing her voice. He makes you feel something for what I can only call the monster of the stories. He brings a kind of human quality to them so that you at least see so of the POV. He tells a wonderful tell that I would of loved to have seen filmed with Rose and the Doctor.
When Rose ends up in the river Thames soon followed by the Doctor trying to save the world once again and them trying to grab on to the crates or trunks or whatever those things are that are floating in the river. And flight off the bad guys who have them cornered. And the doctor poof (It would be a spoiler if I told you how he saves the day) saves the days. The dead die and the living live on.
Rose- I have always had a weakness for Rose, the Doctor is 950 years old or more, he has been there done that many times, but Rose is just excited about being alive. She is always the heart of the show and the caring one, And can get the doctor in the worst trouble ever. Plus Rose can kick butt when she has too, she doesn't just sit there and wine she gets up and starts moving.
Parts of freaked me out, the idea of drowning is not a pleasant one but have things controlling my brain while I do it is worse. So there was a definite gross out factor with this story.
It is an awesome including the gross out factor parts. And David Tennett does his very best acting reading this story.
First of all that is so very short, less than an hour. I think they missed some of the poems from the book by the same name but I would have to pull my copy out and listen to it at the same time to be sure, and well I don't have the time to be that nit-picky. Anyway before I knew it, the audio was done. And I swear it missed a few poems, but got the best of the bunch collected here in this reading. I really enjoyed listening to the Charge of the Light Brigade and Tiger and a few others of my favorites. It was a little lite on woman poets but aren't all anthologies of poetry. Woman only write fluffy love stuff blah blah blah. The old boys club is hard to break into even today. Still it had some good pieces to listen to and it was short. (Way too short)
101 of the best Poems, The seashell anthology of Poems, The Giant Book of Poetry. The Immortal Poems. Just about any of the many $.99 cent to $1.99 dollar books of poetry books out there you can pick up for your kindle because the poets works are now public domain, and you just need someone to formulate the material into a book form for you and sell it for that low price.
I enjoyed the many accents and different voices on this audio, you felt the difference from Robert Burns Scottish voice to Lord Tennyson's very common man's voice on the Charge of the light Brigade. You hear Christopher Marlowe from the late 1500's and more modern voices from the turn of the 1900's. And you felt the difference in there tones, rhythm of words and general patterns of speak.
From the dawn of the written word, there have always been those who could weave magic into there words. Sit back and listen for a short time and hear the magic tapestries they have woven throughout the history.
It cost $2.95. True it's short but sometimes you only have time for short and fast; and it is fun and educational. And helps bring alive these genius beautiful words.
It was very entertaining. I enjoyed the way the lead charter who's name I can't remember lost everything but didn't let it bring her down, instead she builds a kind of home for herself and the street urchins she seems to become governess for. It is a wonderful book and I love how the book has to keep within Victorian standards.
In places it reminds me of the boxcar books, in other places it is like My fair lady, or Oliver Twist. It is really hard to pin it down to being like any other novel . Yet the plot is familiar, Women loses everything ends up on street but keep her dignity is in tact. She ends up taking a butch of street urchins under her wings and turning them into a force to be take notice of.
This was the first time I have listened to MS, Hardingham but I found her most enjoyable. She had just the right inflection to make it believe it believable.
I wish I had the time to just sit and listen to it in one sitting but I never have the time, but I had the most enjoyable time listening to it at nights before bed and letting it take me into the hands of Morpheus.
This maybe a little juvenile aimed novel but it is very entertaining and like Disney I think all ages will enjoy it. Just understand it's not 50 shades of Gray or the Hunger Games it's a Victorian time period novel with steam punk roots and some amazing parts. For some reason it reminded me a little of a modern day Box Car book with a little Oliver Twist thrown in but I have no idea where I got that, It's been 40 years since I read a Box Car kids book. (Yes I am old but not dead yet)
NO the printed word is always better but I sure enjoy being able to listen to it over and over again and again. I don't always have time or the energy to sit and read a book but I can listen to one and I enjoyed listening to Blind Curves a great deal. Looking forward to listening to Blind Leap. I am just sorry Diane and Jacob stopped with just 3 books in this series.
Yes it did, it keep me guessing and wondering what it would be like to be totally blind, I lost the sight in my left eye due MS and I now use just my right eye for seeing every thing, And it would drive me crazy to have to learn brill at my age, I am not sure I could learn it and I just love reading. So I wondered about the lead PI of Blind Eye and how it would be to do all that she could do. And Bud also gave me hope getting around in his wheelchair. And how stubborn he was and well the mystery keeps you guessing until the very end. Like a roller coaster ride.
I never listened to Aiko Nakasone before but I hope she does the whole trilogy so I can listen to her on the other two books. She kind of rocked my world; she was that good!
It's kind of stupid but there are two, the first is when Bud has to get out of his car for the first time and it goes step by step: though all he has to go through to just get in his WC to go to the bathroom. I felt that hit home for me because of my MS and thinking about some of my own step by step things. The second was how hard Tucker tries to please everyone at Blind Eye and how for a long time they kind take her for granite.
This is a lovely book, A great mystery. It shows both positive lesbians and differently able people living and working normal lives in a positive light. The story is charming and still gives you a good mystery with nice to follow clues. Over all I give it an A+
The pace of the story that it would let you think it was slowly down only to jump to warp speed. I liked the interesting way Vampire were brought to light (pun intended) in this story. They were not Buffy's two D vampires nor were they the over sex charged vampires of the Anita Blake (Laurel K Hamilton) world. Just enough balance between the two to keep interested in the story of a girl/ now a vampire passage into a new life style.
I like the lead character who's name has slipped my MS filled brain, but she had gusto and I liked her approach to suddenly finding herself among the un-dead and how fast she adapted to her new world and what guts she showed
It was wonderful. Just the right inflection in her voice to carry the character. She made you believe the story full of vampires.
Young girl college student wakes and finds she has become a vampire and now must walk a tight rope through the unknown world of vampire politics.
It is a fun start to what I hope is a great series I can't wait to read more of the other books in this series.
Yes, because it's a great story and for the silly reason I live in Louisville KY and have spent many an afternoon at Churchill Downs betting races. I enjoyed this behind the stables look at the races with a lesbian cast and fun characters. I enjoyed there interaction and how the racing industry works.
The strong female leads in the story and slow love story that happened between the two main characters set against the back drop of mostly Churchill Downs but not only there, It really was a wonderful and funny story. I loved the part were they steal the horse back to save it's life.
The part where they steal the horse back to save it's life. It was just crazy enough to be a really story.
I think her name is Rosa or Maria (Sorry I can remember her name) The Hispanic stable worker that was the main bosses like best friend. I got the feeling not only does she know where all the bodies are buried and that she is hot between the sheets to women. But she could keep you laughing until you busted something inside.
Great story, A + , both funny and heart warming but I loved the inside scoop on the racing industry and how it works.
YES! I was surprised at how much I liked the story and the interaction between the two women. And besides being a nice lesbian romance story it's a good science fiction/mystery action thriller that is like a hard roller coaster ride with twist you don't see coming.
First that it wasn't predictable, it had nice twist to it that kept surprising you. Second it was a lovely romance story between a cop done wrong by the system trying to get her life back on track and back to being a cop and a women with a shady past that was trying to make some of the black marks against her go away because not all of them were her doing and she had other now to think off. Even though they are both women you can see how they must depend on one another but how also they both fall for the other one with out ever trusting them fully.
The cop, She was tough but tender, kind of a marshmallow inside. I liked how the story let us into her head and let us know what she was thinking and feeling. The fact she couldn't figure out why her boss was out to get her, just the whole POV from her eyes was nice.
The Cop and it's because I liked they way her mind worked. Her honor, and her honesty. I would love to go out for pizza and a beer with her and just talk about her world and how it works, why she became a cop. Just everything about the world she lived in and her.
This surprised me at how good it was and how much fun it was to listen too. They have good deal if you buy the book first the audio. So my advice is to do it that way because it's cheaper and you have both to listen and read.
There is no printed version audible! This is Suzanne W. doing her stand up routine brilliantly following in the footsteps of Kate Clinton or even if you stretch it a little Lilly Tomlin. But Suzanne is her own person and owns her comedy. She does touch on current events a little, Martha Stewart going to jail but is not a hard sale on politics. She speak more about the personal. Like her Mother and her sisters, Her acting career, Her girl friend and there cats. And she makes it so funny you almost wet yourself you are laughing so hard.
I like her whole stand up routine, she has perfect timing between jokes and you feel her giving you the punch lines like all the great comic masters do. Timing you just can't teach you either have it or you don't and Suzanne has it. She keeps you in laughter while giving you time to get a breath before you are laughing again.
Suzanne's comedy really is Fresh, a nice voice for the lonely lesbian. I like the story she tells about giving her mother the tee shirt that and her mother not understanding what it meant and wearing it everywhere. I also enjoyed the story about the home depot and the 40 pounds of grout.
They have, Suzanne W. has at least one HBO special that was filmed and boy is it funny. She is so talented. Sometimes you can caught her doing one of those half-hour comedy things on Comedy Central or the like. She really is very funny. I know when Here TV was trying to make a go of it she and 3 other lesbian comedians where filmed together for a special. The DVD's and taped and specials are hard to find but out there and she is awesome to see perform.
This is the best of her 3 audio stand up routines that were taped. But all 3 were very funny. I got this and the other two on sale though I own the CD already. I bought them so I would have them on my kindle when I felt the need for a good laugh. Even though I have heard all 3 dozens of times - still I laugh at the jokes every time.
Tacky Funny Soap/Drama. Sorta of cheated on the last word. But the story is a little B-Movie Tacky yet amazingly FUN soap opera-ish Drama that pokes fun in it's own way at the whole genre while being tenderly interesting. Radclfyee good this is not. The woman in the story might get a kiss here or there and a funny passionate feeling there but there is not one real sex scene in this novel yet the whole thing is about a group of lesbian women saving the day for Asgar. There is even a few bits of mythology tossed in on the side but it remains a true science fiction story. Still it's a fun story and you find yourself liking these Valkyrie.
Mostly the parts that made me laugh because they where so tacky. The little lines about "but first I have to take care of my passionate mate Kate" And when Whispering breeze is recovering from near fatal wounds Cara or maybe it's Kate says to her "You can't die because if we were to take a third to our bed it would be you." Just off the wall lines that make it tacky but oh so fun to listen to, and have a good laugh.
When the Ragnar girl claims the Whispering Breeze as her mate, or finally admits she wants her and is willing to fight of anyone who comes near her dying mate. It was a kind predictable scene but fun and funny.
In the future where the earth is hopelessly out number and out gun, Earths only hope is a handful of Valkyrie who have landed Asgar on Earth to help out. OK TOO LONG, Short version Space Monster attack Earth but Earth is Saved by Valkyrie.
This a well written piece of fluff but it's fun fluff with lesbians in a positive light. It made me smile if not laugh. If you enjoyed the first book you will love the second but read/listen to the first one first.
YES YES YES!!! I love MS Westenhoefer's stand up. She is extremely funny and it's nice to have a lesbian do our own humor. Plus she is thought provoking. She makes you think about our culture and ourselves, about the trials of coming out, of dealing with family. But her way of handing is to take you on cruise. Have fun and listen.
I think I found just her general stand up funny but my favorite routines where about the Amish and Her saying with her mother with her the parts about her sister and her mother.
I have all three of her CD at my house, I downloaded all three of her CD's on to my computer and kindle fire. I have several DVD's with her doing small bits I love watching her whenever I get the chance to see her on TV. Do yes I have a lot of stuff she does. She is a really funny comedian. And this Audio of her stand up routine is really funny.
I have seen Suzanne do her stand-up on HBO special's which is as close as you get to seeing preform on of her stand up routine. If you can find a copy -do, she will make you laugh till you cry.
This a lesbian culture icon thing, if you are gay you need to hear this and laugh -hard.
