I've read other novels by Jo Nesbo and this one is unlike the others. This book was frightening without being gory. The darker side of human nature is shown The characters are all unlikeable but compelling. The story is beautifully developed and suspenseful. I highly recommend it as a literary thriller.
I wouldn't recommend this book. I usually love her writing. The characters in this book were not particularly interesting. The characters all seemed one dimensional, never developed or surprising in any way. The story was a multi-generational study of an Indian family in Calcutta and the United States. It includes discussion of political unrest in India and how it affects the family.
The ending was the most interesting part of the book.
The performance was ok.
One of my favorite authors but not one of my favorite books.
I thoroughly enjoyed this well written character study. The isolation and loneliness of the three main characters is heartbreaking but not really depressing. There is a hopefulness throughout which is very uplifting. I rarely write reviews but this audiobook is worth recommending and certainly worth a credit.
Savagely funny at times and painful at other times. Characters are beautifully shown with their flaws as well as beauty. Also a refreshing look at aging and love. Well worth the credit. An exceptional book expertly read.
Beautiful narration of a good story about fascinating characters blending fact with fiction. Bryce Courtenay follows a formula in his stories that is always a little familiar with larger than life women characters but always entertaining.
I generally love mysteries but emphasis on women's body parts was boring and tasteless. Had nothing to do with plot. I was unable to get past first 1/3 of book/ Couldn't care about any of the characters. Big waste of time
I usually enjoy the dark atmospheric Scandinavian thrillers but this was too long and drawn out and I wished it would end sooner.
Tender story of a good man trying to make a diference tin the life of an old friend who is dying.
So glad to find this unabridged version of Kavalier and Clay. I read the novel several years ago and loved it then. The narration is excellent.
After reading "Canada" I downloaded this book. This was very different in style. I did enjoy it but found it repetitive and overly long.
Humphrey Bower is a wonderful narrator and I usually enjoy the storytelling of Bryce Courtenay. This story was very formulaic with cartoonish characters. There were some interesting moments but not the best of his books.
