Fallon McKniere is a person you probably wouldn't favor with a second glance if you saw her on the street. She's not only petite in stature, she's toothpick-thin, and her clothes say "thrift shop". Her stance says "Don't mess with me." But if you take a closer look, you'll see a haunted expression in her eyes. Donovan Pfarr takes a closer look. And can't turn away when he realizes that she goes hungry most of the time. He feels compelled to help her.

What disappointed you about On Berryhill Road?

The storyline held the promise of being interesting, the delivery was awful. The reader brought nothing to the table. The performance was boring, unemotional. There was no real connection between the reader and the story, the result being that I felt nothing . I couldn't. finish it.

What was most disappointing about Tommie Lyn’s story?

Interesting premise, ruined by presentation. I think might be one of the times that book would better read rather than listened to.

Would you be willing to try another one of George Kuch’s performances?

No. Slow, unemotional, characters came off weak and despite the storyline uninteresting.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment

Adam Jordan wrote the best and worst articles of his journalistic career on the same day. The worst was bad enough to get him fired - but the best landed him a new job, penning lurid articles for Real Detective magazine, one of the last of the true-crime pulps. Only the case they've got him working on, involving a beauty pageant contestant found dead on an Atlantic City beach, is one some very powerful men would rather see covered up than covered.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Nothing, simply could not get into this book

What do you think your next listen will be?

Looking forward to Harlan Coben, Six Years

How could the performance have been better?

No problem with the performance or story that I can point out as "this" was the thing that turned me off. Just could not get past first half no matter how many times I tried.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Not for me

    Any additional comments?

I am a big fan of Noir and thought this might be a fit

Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about - his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. Vin diPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that - until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking Harley-riding, self-professed savior.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I was hooked by the sample. I loved the voice of the narrator (new narrator for me) and the story line sounded interesting. I was half way through the book and downloaded the next two books (Crave and Envy). BIG MISTAKE. The sex scenes are beyond explicit they are pornographic. Crave and Envy are worst yet, now we have graphic sex between apparently homosexual or bisexual Angels. There is nothing presented while considering whether or not to purchase the book the sugguests the content. These books should come with a warning label!!

What aspect of Eric G. Dove???s performance would you have changed?

nothing, loved his voice and his presentation was great

    Any additional comments?

I skipped the other categories, I've said all I want to say about this book and the others in this series.

Charlie Poole is proof of inertia. Stuck tending bar (badly) in his gangster uncle's Brooklyn saloon, he doesn't like his job much, can't imagine leaving Brooklyn, but doesn't see its charms either. Doesn't want to stay, doesn't want to go, so he keeps on keeping on, and getting drinks wrong. Suddenly, two hit men interrupt his ennui. Oops! Gotta move now; he's about to be killed.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK. I WAS HOOKED BY THE SAMPLE AND BOUGHT THE BOOK WITH THE HOPE THAT I WOULDN'T BE DISAPPOINTED, AND I WASN'T. WHILE NORMALLY I DON'T LIKE BOOKS WITH SOUND EFFECTS OR MUSIC, IN THIS CASE THEY ONLY ADDED TO THE ENJOYMENT OF THE EXPERIENCE. THE MUSIC HEARD IN THE SAMPLE REMINDED ME OF THE MUSIC FROM THE MOVIE "KILL BILL". YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE THE RIDE.
