"A grand literary adventure!"
What a comforting audiobook. How nice it is when you buy an audiobook that repays you with a great story and a comforting and riviting reader/actor. I had never read "The Hobbit" before so I had only a vague familiarity of the characters to start my literary adventure, but let me tell you how wonderful and exciting it was to go along with Bilbo, Gandalf, (and the Dwarves) Thorin, Fili, Kili, Dwalin, Balin, Oin, Gloin, Ori, Dori, Nori, Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur. We met up with the Elves, Wargs, Goblins, Trolls, Humans and Smaug the dragon who lives in the Mountain that he had stolen from the Dwarves many years before. Oh I miss it already. I guess it's a great thing that I have a bad memory so I can enjoy this one again before too long (LOL). I refuse to spoil the story for you so I will have to leave off after adding that I hope you give this book a chance, that is only if your up for a grand literary adventure.
"Six stars all around, if Audible let me!"
I downloaded Dan Brown's latest book as it was released, around 3:30 am, (FWIW, I'm not a bum, I have a spinal injury) and Immediately became absorbed in an utterly fascinating tale! The story is interesting, fast and fierce. I found the reader perfect for the parts and he did everything to bring me in farther. I do not want to spoil the book for any of you so I will only say, if you liked his other works then you will probably like or love "Inferno." I say this because they are very much the same type of books but at the same time very different. I wish all series writers could write that way. I hope you enjoy it as I have.
May God Bless!
"Very entertaining book!"
I very much enjoyed my first Nele Neuhaus book and I hope to soon find more of her novels available in english. In the begining I was tempted by the name of the book but once I started listening I found myself deeply entertained and I wound up sitting and listening much longer than I had expected. It is a little different than my usual reads but it is probably even more entertaining (there's that word again!). I refuse to talk much about the story because I will probably destroy some of the beautifully woven pieces, so I will only say that, for me, it would be worth twice the credits that it cost. I say that because I think Nele must of spent a great amount of time weaving this novel and I don't mind paying more to experience it's beauty.
Thank's for reading my thoughts on "Snow White Must Die". P.S.: For those that want to know, there is not much bad language or graphic violence to be found. Sure there are murders and such but Nele included them just how this father of two kids prefers, with taste and respect. "Snow White Must Die" is a bit of a throw back to the older mystery writer days that produced so many great writers, less junk and more quality! Good job Nele, I would let my older teen read it, and that's not too easy to say these days.
"What a great story!"
I have read this book several times, I have 2 paper copies, 1 cd and now I downloaded it from Audible. I got it from Audible so I could bookmark it and so it would take up less room on the mp3 than the cd does. Anyway on to the review. How do I tell you how great it is without telling too much? Hmmmmm, well, I think I will try to tell you just a few of the things that I loved about it. This story grabbed me from the first page, yes the first page! No joke at all about that. The way the words spoke to me was different than most books, it was special. The stories pace was detailed but fast, to me it was just the right mixture to make me want to keep going without many breaks. As the story starts it is about an older boy whose Mom dies and he has to accept a new mom and a new half brother. Somewhere around there he starts to hear books talking to him, a "crooked man" starts coming around and he finds a door to a secret land/world.
When he enters the new world he finds one of the greatest and worst adventures that anyone could imagine. He meets some of my favorite characters that I have ever read in one book. Some of them befriend him while others scare him, lie to him, try to kill and even try to steal his soul. It is a coming of age book but also so much more. It is an adventure for some older teens but mostly for adults. It has a good ending so don't worry about that. All in all I believe most readers will find a reason to like this book. I usually read Koontz and Stephen King type of books but I now find this book among my all time favorites. The only thing that upsets me is that John Connolly has yet to write another story like this one! I will patiently wait.
I hope you give it a try.
Thank you for reading my opinion!
"I have a dear family member...."
I have a dear family member that did me a favor, they listened from the 7:35 mark until the 25:02 point (I bookmarked it for them). That is all that I asked. I did it in an attempt to help although I knew it would only work if they were ready (ready enough) for it to work. Well, it really worked! They started the 1000mg Omega 3 vitamin that very hour and what a difference it made in her. She never ate fish, hated it, and she is allergic to nuts so she was really lacking in the fatty acids that help the brain. She also did the other thing that was mentioned, kept busy when she was thinking too deep about negative things.
The book is over 6 hours long but was helped in the first 18 minutes, wow. What a wonderful tool for life! Thank you Dr. and Audible!!!
P.S., I suggest reading the whole book in time!
"What a story!"
This story is entertaining from the start to the end! I know little of Straub and only bought it because of King but this book has me wanting to know more about him. I would love to tell you about the story but it would be unfair as it would likely rob the book of vital moments, so I will just say that in my opinion this book will be LOVED by any fan of King and Muller. Not only loved but read again and again in due time. I know, it's alot of hours to pledge to a book but as always King never wastes our time and always rewards us for the lost sleep. What a story!
"First time reader of Clines, but not the last!"
That was an entertaining book!!! Great characters and story. Actually the characters were very fun to get to know and I felt like I was in the middle of their group at times. It was awesome! The story is about an old building (an apartment), the buildings unknown owners, the renters that lived there and a scary adventure that grabed me from the start. The building was odd and almost seemed to be alive. I won't spoil it but I will say that this book reminded me a bit like a mixture between Dean Koontz, Neil Gaiman, Tim Powers, and with the oddness and beauty of Stephen King sprinkled all around. Think Aliens, Super natural events, great characters, all wrapped around a good story with a historic (Tim Powers) touch. That doesn't give a true picture of the writting, as Peter Clines has his own style, but I will say that I now have a new authur to look upon and I really look forward to doing that!
"Now, that was nice!"
I, somehow, was not expecting that to happen. When I pushed that button on my MP3 player a long lost friend stopped by and told me an amazing story. That may sound silly to you, and I guess it does to me too (a little) but I must admit that when I recognized his mannerisms and felt his character and heard his same voice, well, I felt comforted. How many books do that? Not many for me unless it is a reread, but when a new book does, I am instantly happy that I bought it. It IS the same old Odd and his stories are always special. Some of his stories are funnier and some may be a little darker but they are all enjoyable. Some I like more than others but I am always sad when they end. It is so nice to know that he has continued to come back and catch us up on his life, although sometimes he stays away a little too long inbetween his stories.
I don't want to ruin the book by giving out too many facts so I will speak only of, was it worth it or not, and it was without a question worth it as always.
This review may sound cheesy to you but I wrote it based on real feelings and that is always a good thing to do IMO. Good reading and may God bless!
"Downloaded at 2 am on the 14th"
I downloaded this just as soon as it showed up and so far I can tell you a couple of things:
#1. The reader is doing his part and his style fits what I was expecting!
#2. The story, for those that don't know what it is about, is classic King but with an apocalyptic type of plot. The character building is huge and wonderful here but don't worry your self as it DOES NOT SLOW DOWN THIS BOOK at all. King gives us maybe the biggest and best set of characters that he has ever had published and I'm not kidding about that!!!
#3. The overall feel of this classic is ....well it's just classic! It got me from the first few minutes on and carried me on a journey that somehow leaves no doubt that I learned a few things that are useful in life, but I'm biased when it comes to The Stand as it has had a place in my heart for years. If you are looking to get into a very long book that will teach, scare, bring sadness and joy as well as new memorable characters into your thoughts then you have found a classic for sure!
Just keep that in mind that many of us readers are revisiting this book in it's new form and are only looking for word that the reader has delivered what Stephen King wrote for us many years ago so all the reviews may not be what a new reader is looking for. I hope I was able to give you a review that will help in some way.
"This book makes me wish I gave 5 stars less often"
This book makes me wish I gave 5 stars less often, so my rating would truely show the beauty that has been created here! Where do I start? I will go with the reader. Craig Wasson reminds me of, previously thought unmatched, Frank Muller! I say this with great surprise as Mullers work is simply beautiful art that I have never heard matched. He had a way of bringing me along on each journey and making each word believable and each character real. To me Mr. Wasson is doing what only Muller has done for me in an audiobook. I feel the pain and the choices, heck, I found mysel emotionally tied to this new book after 20 minutes. I just don't ever do that. Anyway, I think you get the point. On to the Story: I will not spoil this wonderful/beautiful book here but will just say this book, in my opinion, would be loved by most any person that reads books for the characters in a story. The realism, the plot, the emotion and the fun of this book is, well, I wont say because I really don't want to become even more repetitive than I already have so you can take any of the above descriptions and add it here. If you love King, heck if you don't even like him I would still believe that this book has a really good chance of becoming a favorite of yours. I will say one thing that I do not like about King and that is the bad language. I do not curse and haven't in many years so I cringe every time but it is life it seems and compared to many others it still comes out mild in comparison.
I wish you good reading, as I think most will love this one
