Yes. I usually go back to the stories I give 5 stars too.
Yes, if the
He is the reason I decided to download the audiobook. Popular mysteries aren't usually my thin, but sometimes I'm open to trying something other than a romance novel and Mr. Boutsikaris sample was clear and strong and I can't explain how I was so drawn to his voice.
Patterson is an excellent wordsmith. I did not laugh or cry ... but I did thrill, gasp and sniffed through the scandalous plot. I liked that this story was set within the confines of a small town and that it navigated slippery family issues.
Yes because ... see below.
The storyline is a nice easy mystery that I could enjoy without having to think too hard - it kept me interested in the unfolding of the plot. I like how he presents and explores the themes of cynicism, pride and redemption. I was also pleasantly surprised at his subtle sense of humor, I wasn't expecting this from a writer who usually explores apologetics.
I've listened to other Scott Brick narrated titles and I just like his clear voice. I suppose his lower-register voice perfectly keeps my attention and I never have to rewind because I can't make out what he read.
Strobel is a good storyteller - I would love to see him write more fiction.
Not to be preachy, but you'll miss out on a very good story.
For believers in Christ, this is a great way to explore the reality of the one thing we are waiting for, the Second Coming. While this is only one theory about that time, it's a great way to visualize and understand what those complicated Revelation verses mean.
For non-believers, if you enjoy thrillers -- listen. The characters are real, well-developed and the plot is intriguing. The authors take a Biblical theory and write a very gripping tale with great action. But of course, I pray that you'll find more than a good read.
Where SEP comes up with her ideas for a story line are beyond me and that is why I personally LOVE THEM. And the author's tongue-in-cheek runs satisfyingly high in this novel. Expect to laugh, snicker, guffaw, and even cackle through out the listen. The romance builds up in a unique and satisfying development. The heroine is spunky but not smug. No excuses are made for her flaws; real life flaws that we can all relate to --- so you can't help but champion the heroine's endeavor to overcome.
Adding her own distinct mark, Shannon Cochran fills in beautifully for the dearly missed Anna Fields. In my humble opinion, should now and forever be THE voice of an SEP audio production. Her voice is natural and she is very adept of giving each character their own unique tone. She conveys ALL the emotions, especially humor with excellent timing.
Jennifer Crusie has written quite a gem of a story. It's been a while since I've been blown away by a superbly imaginitive storyline backed by a strong herione and other endearing characters and this story is certainly told with a refreshing and insightful voice.
Angela Dawe, my new favorite narrator, is the perfect voice for the spunky heroine! She's the type of narrator that makes me choose to listen to an audiobook that I probably wouldn't have listened to.
This is my first book from this author and I was quite pleased. I like how she (the author) explores an awkward and heartbreaking love triangle. My only complaint (if that) is that it could have been longer!
If you like smart and sassy heroines, cheeky dialouge with witty comebacks and a smart but easy to follow plot line then you should have a listen. The production of the audio is very good as well - Nancy Wu's voice is crisp and I personally LOVED her reading.
Nevermind that the story itself was unbelievably rich and entertaining and satisfying. Nevermind that the narrator has the deep voice that IS like a "voice in the wind". Ms. Rivers is certainly touched with the grace and love that she writes for her characters. In one work of fiction, she compellingly conveys the grace and love of the God she writes about.
It's true that it seemed that five sentences were necessary to convey one concept but most of descriptions are rich; the unravelling of a facinating story line is the reward.
I do concede however that some concepts were simple enough NOT To require the 5 sentences written to convey the point. But overall, a good read.
