For anyone seeking to know more about our universe, how we got here, and why reality is more fulfilling and amazing than any myth or holy book, this is for you.
If facts and evidence don't matter to you, this book will do nothing for you. Then again, no book will do anything for you.
Who doesn't want to know everything? I can tell you who does: myself and Stephen Hawking. Dr. Chair delivers another brief, accessible (wheelchair accessible as well)and exciting look into the universe at the smallest scale. If you're a fan of physics, you should have already read this.
This course addresses the topic that the professor's book covers extensively:
Either the book or the course will serve you well in learning how Jesus of Nazareth came to be known as God himself. The course is narrated by professor Ehrman who is a proficient orator. Either medium is highly recommended.
A view from an experimental physicist inside the Large Hadron Collider. An excellent peek into the miracle of modern particle physics.
Black science man does it again! From 10^-43 seconds to the present day, this is the evolution of the universe in a brief edition. It also tells us how we know about the evolution of the universe through experimentation and what will likely happen in the future (spoiler alert: the universe ends up to be a real clunker, totally black and empty, approaching absolute zero and everybody's dead.). A fantastic read for the fan of physics and science in general.
Ehrman is an erudite scholar of Biblical history, especially as it pertains to early Christian history. This course was so interesting and informative that when I finished it, I started it again. If you are interested in the topics in the above description, listen to this course.
Note: This is not a devotional course. It covers the topics from the perspective of a historian, not from a theologian.
A fantastic course on New testament history conducted by Bart Ehrman. This work addresses such questions as:
Who wrote the Gospels?
When were the Gospels written?
In what order were the Gospels written?
What discrepancies are in the Gospels and why?
Who the wrote the Pauline epistles?
How can we tell who wrote these books?
Ehrman is erudite and well-regarded among Biblical scholars. This work does not disappoint and I highly recommend this and other Great Courses by Bart Ehrman.
Note: This work is from a historical-critical perspective, not a devotional perspective. It is academia, not religion.
Dawkins from boy to young man, grad student to professor, science author to prolific and ardent spokesperson of disbelief. This book is the memoir of one of the greatest evolutionary biologists and an interesting character indeed. Very little science can be found inside, but you will get the full story of how Richard Dawkins came to be who he is today.
This is not exactly fascinating stuff unless you're a Dawkins fan, so I'd advise you to keep that in mind. If you are a Dawkins fan, it's a worthwhile read.
A scholarly and historical (not devotional) perspective on how the New testament came to exist in its present form. The course is a lecture series given by premier Bible Scholar Bartrand Ehrman. If you're looking for an objective view into the history of the Bible and Christianity, I highly recommend this series.
This course is not a devotional course. It is not intended necessarily for Christians, but for those who are interested in the history of Christianity. This is not Christianity from a theological perspective. In other words, this is education. It is not a course on faith.
Professor Ehrman is an erudite scholar on the Bible and the history of Christianity. If you wish to receive an objective education on the subject, this course is appropriate for you.
Every year I can always count on Audible to notify me via email of their generosity. I use the term "generosity" loosely, as in "Audible was generous enough to send me some anthrax spores!". Perhaps anthrax spores might have been a more generous gift, as I could have snorted it halfway through this book and never had to endure another Audible holiday gift again.
