It is the week before Christmas. The effects of the credit crunch have prompted Dr Kay Scarpetta to offer her services pro bono to New York City’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. But in no time at all, her increased visibility precipitates a string of dramatic and unsettling events. She is asked live on the air about the sensational case of Hannah Starr, who has vanished and is presumed dead.

What made the experience of listening to The Scarpetta Factor the most enjoyable?

A brilliant Scarpetta novel - when Patricia Cornwell still kept the tension high. It would help to have read the book before to understand some of the villains.

I would not have read Lucy in such a wimpy voice, but all the other voices were well read and in character.

Few know the city of Los Angeles the way #1 best-selling author and acclaimed suspense master Jonathan Kellerman does. His thrilling novels of psychological drama and criminal detection make the capital of dreams a living, breathing character in all its glamour and infamy. That storied history of fame, seduction, scandal, and murder looms large in Mystery, as Alex Delaware finds himself drawn into a twisting, shadowy whodunit that’s pure L.A. noir—and vintage Kellerman.

What does John Rubinstein bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved the life brought to the characters, the deep husky voices of the Lieutenant as well as old Gretchen.

When bestselling crime writer Mike Noonan's wife dies, he suffers from writer's block. Until he is drawn from Derry to his lakeside retreat, Sara Laughs, a house once inhabited by a famous singer. It's a community run by rich, tyrannical, wheelchair-bound Devore and his terrifying, skeletal, female bookkeeper. Devore is hell-bent on getting custody of his grandchild. Three-year-old Kyra and her young mother, Mattie, turn to Mike for help, and Mike, besotted by Mattie, is powerless to resist.

Would you listen to Bag of Bones again? Why?

Absolutely. I'll bet there is so much I could get out of the story if I listened to it again. And to have it read by Stephen King himself makes it really pop. I

What about Stephen King’s performance did you like?

The accents he gives the different characters. It feels like I've watched the movie..

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was intense. I see a different meaning to the shadows now.

    Any additional comments?

Looking for the next Stephen King to add to the collection.
