Would you consider the audio edition of Your Erroneous Zones to be better than the print version?

I had read and reread the book years ago. I also listened to this back when initially released. I am not sure if someone who wasn't already familiar with it would get as much out of it. I liked his condensing of some of the chapters of the book...it is very effective and much easier to remember and apply.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Your Erroneous Zones?

    Guilt and worry

What about Dr. Wayne W. Dyer’s performance did you like?

He is always easy to listen to--warm and humorous style

On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like The Stand, Lord of the Rings or The Dark Tower then you MUST listen to this one. The usual darkness of King, there are definitely a lot of moments of victory for the characters though.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Talisman?

    I love Wolf!

What about Frank Muller’s performance did you like?

I have never heard a performance by Muller that was bad. I am always pleasantly surprised at how he seems to capture the essence of the stories that he reads...no matter the genre

  • The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature

In The Blank Slate, Steven Pinker, one of the world's leading experts on language and the mind, explores the idea of human nature and its moral, emotional, and political colorings. With characteristic wit, lucidity, and insight, Pinker argues that the dogma that the mind has no innate traits, denies our common humanity and our individual preferences, replaces objective analyses of social problems with feel-good slogans, and distorts our understanding of politics, violence, parenting, and the arts.

    C. J. Hamilton says: "Instant classic"

What did you love best about The Blank Slate?

Pinker cites a lot of research on various personality and character traits, many of which turn the nature/nurture discussion on its ear. I really have a better appreciation for how different some people around me are and how it may really be even more out of their control than I ever suspected. So much else is in here, I really wouldn't know where to start...

What did you like best about this story?

His presentation is very balanced...I think he took risks in presenting his information without bias

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to get out of the car.

  • The Sagan Diary

Jane Sagan: Soldier. Killer. Lover. Dreamer. In John Scalzi's best-selling Old Man's War series of science-fiction novels, we see this warrior woman as the other characters see her - silent and strong, from the outside. But now The Sagan Diary shows us Sagan from another point of view: her own, as she prepares to leave military life and join her new husband and adopted daughter on a colony world.

Robert says: "Nothing like Scalzi's old man's war."

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I didn't know what to expect, I wasn't familiar with the author. I like the way that he crafted the story (as well as the genesis of the story itself) and the unique take on his first person narrative. I was intrigued and after about a third of the story I really was hooked on the direction he was taking it. I don't want to spoil anything...definitely different and interesting.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I definitely was moved by some of the plot elements--tears of intense feeling conveyed in the plot.

  • Go the F--k to Sleep

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

Where does Go the F--k to Sleep rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is just pure fun. You can hear Sam Jackson's voice when you read the title in your head. Nice juxtaposition with the style/type of book and the content/language. I plan to dust this off at regular intervals to listen again and again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

While not the best of the series, it is still very good. The intro with the background to the series is sort of fun in the way it ties everything together...although you could almost just skip it until after you know what the series is about. A lot of adventure in this one, but the story is not quite as big in the sense of the larger epic saga that really characterizes the series as a whole. You must be a fan of space opera to really love this...many authors owe their existence to the Doc.The narration is appropriate to the type of material. I wouldn't have necessarily chosen the same accents, but it is effective in delineating the characters.

What other book might you compare Triplanetary to and why?

refer to works of ER Burroughs, E Moon.

What three words best describe Reed McColm’s voice?

    Appropriately overly dramatic
