"Disappointing"
This one was a real disappointment. The story was unnecessarily complicated and frankly a bit boring compared to other books in this "series". The narration was also a definite disappointment. I admit I am not a fan of multiple narrators for one book and I found it distracting in this book. The male narrator in particular was very annoying, using exaggerated accents and overly babyish voices. The Tommy Lee Jones impression for one of the main male characters was particularly annoying. Overall, I'd say skip this book.
"Who can resist an irreverent Irish hero/druid?"
I stumbled upon this series with the sale on "First Books in a Series" and I am so glad. The writing is fast and funny. The hero is a smart ass and so is his dog. Some of the best dialog is between Atticus and his Irish wolfhound Oberon. The narration is very well done, flowing seamlessly over hard to pronounce Irish and Polish names. Kevin Hearne has done a remarkable job writing a fresh, engaging and funny new Fantasy series.
"Wonderful!"
I enjoyed this book so much that I plan to listen to it again very soon. At the beginning I wasn't too thrilled with the narrator, but either she gets more animated as the book goes on or I just became accustomed to her style. The story is fun and interesting, a different take on vampires and witches. I hope the author plans to write a sequel. If you enjoy reading fantasy and romance, I don't think you will be disappointed.
"Poorly narrated"
After listening to the previous Charlie Bone books narrated wonderfully by Simon Russell Beale, I was very disappointed to discover that this book and the one following have a new narrator. The narrator sounds rather depressing and the whole effect is a rather irritating and boring listening experience.
