This story would be a lot easier to believe if the father was not a pastor. Is it just a fiction? if so, if should not be presented as fact.
Holds interest to the last word. painful.and fascinating family saga.. Charters are well drawn.with human failings and strengths..
I loved this portrayal of teenage girls in all their innocence and cruelty. I mourn for Celina and Rebecca, who are probably lost beyond recovery, but the totally confused, as if it were the beginning of a new book. Who is Steven? I wish someone would straighten this out for me. What did I miss?
I loved this book. the narration was top notch and the depiction of the ridged.manners of the late 19th century in all their pseudo sophistication and naivete. I fear some politicos would.like to take us back there
The Sense of an Ending did not end soon enough for me. Very boring.l I wish I had not wasted a credit on this book.
The story is up to Lescroat's standard, but the narration is very distracting. As long as Dawe is just narrating the story, he is fine, but when he does voices, awful. The women sound like chattering crows and the men just sound false. I'll read the next John Lescroat book.
This is my first Terry Pratchett book and I loved every minute of it. I really like the fast delivery as it enhances the droll humor. I appreciated the message of acceptance, diversity and assimilation of different cultural groups. I will listen to more books by this author.
A waste of one credit. I stopped listening halfway through the first part. Too long and too involved.
I liked this story because it spoke to me as an Irish Catholic woman raised in Maine. I could pluck people out of my own life and set them down in this setting. This is an adult book and deserves a sophisticated narrator not one who sounds like she's reading to kids. I would recommend it to those who are interested in Irish-Catholic guilt and fatalism.
This is my first Donna Leon book and I will definitely read or listen to more of her works. The story is complex and most of the characters are finely drawn. Leon has a lot of insight into the human character and what drives us. David Colacci is the perfect narrator for this work.
