This book started a bit slowly, and it was hard to identify initially with Daniel and all of his quirks and issues. But it built into such a heartwarming story, and it was wrapped up in a bow at the end. Happy endings, especially when the setup seems somewhat bleak, are to be treasured.

Don't be turned off by how much time is spent enumerating Daniel's challenges in dealing with "real life", stick with it and you will be rewarded. More satisfying ending than Shop Girl, I can't wait for his next novel.

The story is great, and, unlike some other readers, I thought Ethan Hawke's reading was great and that he added just the right touch of emotion to the book.

I also found myself thinking back to one of my other favorite listens, The Time Traveler's Wife, while listening to this. It is fascinating to think of being able to experience your life "out of order". This book was just a joy to listen to.

This was an interesting book, but not as many "new" things about the founding fathers as I'd hoped to hear.

And Scott Brick was not the best choice of narrator for this book. I usually enjoy his narrations, but he was a bit too low key and monotone for this type of book, and I found it hard to keep my attention on the content. A more animated read might have made this come alive a bit more.

Ossie and Ruby Dee are great to listen to, and the stories they tell of growing up and living through the 20th century were fascinating and informative. Their story has a bit of glamour given their fame and artistic bents, but also reminds us that African Americans, no matter how successful, had to fight to get to where they are today.

Engaging, entertaining and informative.

My whole family enjoyed this book, including my husband! The author is a wonderful narrator, she adds a lot to the listening experience. The story itself is very involving and, as we were listening while traveling, my kids were quite anxious to get back in the van (a first!) to find out what happened to the characters. Just a great listen all around.

As others have pointed out, this book ended incredibly abruptly. It really was a shock that it ended as it did, I've never been so disappointed. I also felt the cadences of the reader were annoying, and I will avoid books read by her in the future...seemed like she was barking the story.

This is a character study in many ways, and I wanted to know more about Mirabelle and what happened to her. Steve Martin continues to be an astute observor of that rarified area known as Los Angeles...if you liked LA Story, you'll enjoy this.
