"Enjoyable except when reader got under my skin"
The plot of the book was not focused on the pursuit of love, even if it contained that sweet aspect as well, but on the pursuit of one's dream and ambitions. It was inspiring and motivating, also the recipes at the beginning of each chapter and the final epilogue where the writer gives baking advice was such an original touch to the novel.
I haven't yet read another book like the Cupcake Cafe...
I think I would and might pick up the second Cupcake Cafè book I noticed on Audible
Cupcake Romance? Nah, I prefer the original title
The reader... was talented as she was able to make many, many different voices but her tight British accent... dunno where it was from... but it was just at points unbearable. At times I even had to rewind back because I couldn't understand what the hell she was saying, especially when she was reading grandpa's parts. At one point I even thought about turning the damn thing off but stuck to the end only because the story was enjoyable.
"Beautiful absurdity"
As much as I love chick lit, this was way too long... the twists and turns that go on during the book are just too predictable so I think the book would have been more enjoyable if it had been shorter and more straightforward.
As previously mentioned, I would make the chase less obvious, and the guy less impossible. It's true that chick lit is way too good to be true, but this romance was just way over the top.
I found her way of reading very enjoyable and her tone of voice in some characters made me smile
It was a cute reading and I don't regret purchasing the title... but I found myself listening to the whole way through just to reach the end.
There is way too much chick lit available nowadays and I know pretty much all plots have been explored... I just think this one lacked at least the originality of the steamy passionate scenes and that element of fantasized romance that actually has the potential of becoming reality.
"Pitiful"
A whole other type of story! I felt totally fooled by getting this book
No, because thankfully there are many much better books of the genre and I know it
clear, soft, nagging
Huge disappointment! the plot was so intriguing, a mix between twilight and vampire diaries, only with angels. The writer didn't at all play the story well, it had such big potential... and it's not about teen romance, forget about it, I would have never found this appealing, not even when I was 15.
The biggest achievement was that I was able to listen to the whole story, always hoping that it would get more interesting... nope, not the case!
This is a trilogy? Nope, I've had enough with the first book. No more.
"Did not disappoint"
The actual games this time, the setting was so much more original compared to the one in the very first book... it's too bad though that the author focused more on the pre-game part and was a bit too rushed in the end
The ending... a true cliffhanger... made me wanna get the third book immediately
she is very emotional, really got you into the part
"Enjoyable light reading"
I would recommend this to all my romantic comedy, vampire loving fellow readers. It's got the love, the humor, the fangs... too bad it was lacking a bit of mystery but I guess it couldn't have been added in such a short book
All the other books from the author have the same exact imprint
Definitely the main character
At some points it made me laugh, especially when it talked about the first car incident the author had.
Never change the narrator in this series, she just made the book so much more enjoyable, entertaining and especially funny! I just wish this had been elaborate on a bit more, the love story, a bit more mystery... some blood ... this is after all a vampire novel, isn't it? Besides the fact that the vamp was sleeping in a compartment during the day he was pretty much stripped of his most appealing vampirish capabilities... that's too bad.
"Absolutely loved especially the audiobook version!"
The best read I've had in the last couple of months
The creativity of the author, the description of the various settings and the performance of the narrator
Such a strong emotional interpretation that doesn't interfere with the reader's natural perception of the story. It just made the read engaging and a pleasure to follow.
Once scene did make me cry but it was nothing to the extent of "The Secret Life of Bees"
I had started reading this book on paper then just decided to get the audio version and oh my gosh did the narrator do an excellent job! I really liked her voice, so realaxing and at the same time engaging...
The author of the book does an amazing job at getting the reader deep into the story, I felt like I was on the field with the characters! I am almost afraid of reading the sequels because it's often hard to find sequels that live up to the first book... I will definitely give this author a shot again though! She absolutely deserves the hype.
"So funny, but predictable"
I would recommend this for a light reading only to all fans of the vampire fluffy romance genre
The speaker does a great job in accenting all the humor used by the author, a lot of parts during the reading made me smile
I don't know if I will be reading all the other books... the best feature in the story is the author's sense of humor, all the rest is pretty much a recycle of the usual vampire novels... I found the Sookie Stackhouse series to be a lot more interestingly structured and love scenes are way more intreaguing than this series. The love affair in this first book is not so developed but maybe this will be done in the next books?
Maybe I will give the second book a chance, I noticed that this first book got lower reviews anyways...
"A lot of potential"
It was time well spent, it was a relaxing read and perfect for the gym, driving or at night before going to sleep
It was a light, fluffy novel... there were a lot of cute moments but nothing memorable... this book was easy to read as it will be to forget... nonetheless I don't regret finishing it.
Isn't this review format supposed to ruin the surprise for whoever wants to finish it? Anyhow, the book is pretty predictable throughout nonetheless the author managed to create a good twist towards the end
it would be nice to read about the new adventures on the island, even if there should be some more depth into it.
This story had so, so much potential... it often seemed too obvious and bland; for example
**LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD**
- the author doesn't justify enough the arrival of strangers on the island... why are these people coming and what, do they expect to be pampered?
- the love interests are not discussed thoroughly enough.. I cannot explain enough without ruining the story
FINAL COMMENTS
Read this book if you just want to spend a few pleasant light hours... the plot is quite cute but don't expect fireworks
"Speaker didn't do it for me..."
I was expecting something as good as "Match me if you Can" however I was disappointed. The story is basically cute, along the usual lines of the author, but just didn't intrigue as much as Match...
Could it be because the plot is redundant and not as hilarious? Or maybe because the speaker made the leading man of the situation (a rich, sophisticated and great looking English gentleman) sound like a 70 year-old gay man... hearing "his" voice really didn't do it for me...
Regardless, I still want to check out other books by Phillips, preferrably not abridged versions...
"Dreamy till the end!"
I loved this story, it was so entertaining... the reader did an amazing job too, reading out the funny lines... the listen actually had me crackin' up like an oddball in the subway! I will definitely check out more from this author, even if unfortunately I notice that Audible doesn't have many titles from her... let's hope that will change!
Don't miss this if you like to dream with your eyes closed once in a while...
