Dostoevsky studied human nature with passion and precision. He plumbed the depths and never winced at what he found, even when it was beyond his understanding. This extraordinary novel is a recital of his findings, told in the story of four brothers: Dimitri, pleasure-seeking, impatient, unruly; Ivan, brilliant and morose; Alyosha, gentle, loving, honest; and the illegitimate Smerdyakov, sly, silent, cruel. What give this story its dramatic grip is the part these brothers play in their father's murder.

This is an amazing book and I really felt that listening to it helped me get more out of it.

‘Little Women’ begins the much-loved story of the March sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. The girls grow up amidst the turmoils, adventures and hardships of the American Civil War.There is Meg, the eldest, plump and fair; Jo, the tomboy who longs to be a writer and fights against the constraints of her sex; Beth, shy, timid and delicate, who brings out the protective instinct in others; and Amy, the youngest and brightest and, at least in her own estimation, the most important.

It may not be abridged, but it isn't complete. I wish I had paid more attention to the length of the book since it it obviously not the entire book at only 8 hours long. The reader is also annoying when doing the voices of the younger girls.

Hannibal was a great and skillful general who defeated the Romans at Trebia, Lake Trasimenus, and Cannae, and all but took Rome.

    "difficult to listen to"
    Overall

We found the narrator difficult to understand, and when following along in the book we noticed that he missed words altogether. After Dad recovered from his cold, he finished reading this one aloud for us. Loved the story, though. It was written in the 19th century, and therefore don't expect cultural sensitivity and scientific accuracy.

  • Winnie-the-Pooh: A.A. Milne's Pooh Classics, Volume 1

Come with us to an Enchanted Place, a forest where Winnie-the-Pooh lived with Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga, and Little Roo. The stories are about Christopher Robin and these good companions having wonderful times getting in and out of trouble. It is all very exciting and, really, quite thrilling no matter how young or old you may be. It is painful to try and imagine what the world would be like without them.

I think the grown-ups in the car enjoyed this one even more than the kids. The narrator's version of piglet was really delightful. Perfect for all ages.

This brilliant new treatment of the world's oldest epic is a literary event on par with Seamus Heaney's wildly popular Beowulf translation. Esteemed translator and best-selling author Stephen Mitchell energizes a heroic tale so old it predates Homer's Iliad by more than a millennium.

I downloaded this hoping to let my teens listen to it, but was appalled by the subject matter. I was unfamiliar with its mildly pornographic content. Just wanted this to be in the reviews so other conservative parents would be aware.
