    K. Eric Drexler is the founding father of nanotechnology - the science of engineering on a molecular level. In Radical Abundance, he shows how rapid scientific progress is about to change our world. Thanks to atomically precise manufacturing, we will soon have the power to produce radically more of what people want, and at a lower cost. The result will shake the very foundations of our economy and environment.

What made the experience of listening to Radical Abundance the most enjoyable?

Eric Drexler has been thinking about this stuff for so long, that his intuitive understanding out strips anyone in the field. This is the iphone of sciences books, this is a carefully constructed masterpieces. His, metaphors and analogies are spot on with the careful consideration, of a master craftsman. This is the book worth waiting 27 years for. The maturity of his writing style from his first book Engines of creation really shows, in a really good way. There is no magic hand waving hear, and no bar graphics to consider just an intuitive exercise.

What other book might you compare Radical Abundance to and why?

This is one of the major engines in Ray Kurzweil's the Singularity is Near, this explains in detail what ray Kurzweil is talking about when he talks about nanotechnology. Eric and ray had a falling out somewhere along the line, probably because Erics a more concrete thinker, I am saying this because Eric was supposed to be in Rays documentary but was not. So it interesting to keep that in mind. Regardless the Singularity is near is a good comparison contracting work, and Rays lack of description was likely due to the fact that it really was Eric's job to do it right. And that he does.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Playing with Atoms.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I felt like I was playing with a really cool lego set.

    Any additional comments?

This is what the end of analog looks like

  • The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change

Ours is a time of revolutionary change that has no precedent in history. With the same passion he brought to the challenge of climate change, and with his decades of experience on the front lines of global policy, Al Gore surveys our planet’s beclouded horizon and offers a sober, learned, and ultimately hopeful forecast in the visionary tradition of Alvin Toffler’s Future Shock and John Naisbitt’s Megatrends. In The Future, Gore identifies the emerging forces that are reshaping our world....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I was very disappointed, Al Gore lacks vision...
If Al realized that he did not have much to say about the future, and simple explore the different possibilities, and made sure that he did not mixes perspectives on the future, the book might have worked. His understanding of the financial markets was very interesting and maybe if he had explore that more in depth? There were probably a couple of good book ideas in here, he just needed to focuses more on one of them.

What was most disappointing about Al Gore’s story?

Al lacks a good understanding of energy. And because of this he spent no time at all looking at nuclear options, China is investing heavily in nuclear energy, and based on that alone his coal burning numbers are off. Al talks extensively about old school farming, but never talked about Vertical Farming, because Al never puts together 3D printing and building Vertical Farms... Hydroponic vertical farms solve many of the problems Al mentions. The truth is he named a lot of the right people, he just lacks an understanding to see how it all comes together

    Which scene was your favorite?

Al has a pretty good understanding of informational technology and the idea of animal sexting was both funny and reassuring that Al really does have a sense of humor.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I am a sucker for fact and figures...

    Any additional comments?

Al spends way too much time talking about the future he doesn't want to see, and virtually no time on talking about the future he wants to see. The book is way too negative, and he lacks a problem solving perspective.

Here is an impassioned plea for reason in a world divided by faith. This important and timely work delivers a startling analysis of the clash of faith and reason in today's world. Harris offers a vivid historical tour of mankind's willingness to suspend reason in favor of religious beliefs, even when those beliefs are used to justify harmful behavior and sometimes heinous crimes.

What did you love best about The End of Faith?

Sam Nastiness in The End of Faith, is a baclava of intended ruthlessness, and it was yummy, and I savored it. His ruthless dedication to the simple truths, that flow from the axioms put forth by religion was juicy and fresh, and it was a liberating catharsis, and my poo didn't stink for weeks

What was one of the most memorable moments of The End of Faith?

If you must pray for people please don't tell them it's not good for their health.

What about Brian Emerson’s performance did you like?

He captures Sams intended voice nicely.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"Morning has broken on a New day.." All irony intended.

    Any additional comments?

It’s an enima for the soule, so stay close to the pooper.

  • The Self Illusion: Why There Is No "You" Inside Your Head

The Self Illusion provides a fascinating examination of how the latest science shows that our individual concept of a self is in fact an illusion. Most of us believe that we possess a self - an internal individual who resides inside our bodies, making decisions, authoring actions and possessing free will. The feeling that a single, unified, enduring self inhabits the body is compelling and inescapable. But that sovereignty of the self is increasingly under threat from science as our understanding of the brain advances.

What made the experience of listening to The Self Illusion the most enjoyable?

Hood is a great writer I highly recommend the ride into the exploration of the illusion of self. Even if you are well vs in the subject you will find Hood's treatment of the social aspects of self thought provoking, Hood even puts an interesting spin on gender biases, beyond testosterone and estrogen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Brain, it is after all your reality generator.

What about Bruce Hood???s performance did you like?

    Sounds Great at 2x

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Your bound to want to reflect. Even coming back to it in a few days is a good idea

    Any additional comments?
