I generally enjoy the agent/action thriller genre, and have listened to all of the unabridged books by Vince Flynn. Flynn's books generally reflect a right wing political philosophy (characteristic of the genre), which, in his other books, is mere atmospherics easily tolerated for the sake of a good yarn. But this one goes too far: making heroes out of ex-seals who decide to solve the spiraling national debt by assassinating the elected representatives who support the president's budget -- including one senator obviously modeled on Teddy Kennedy. (Sound familiar?) The book was published in 2009, before the current Tea Party-led train wreck, but the glorification of right wing political assassins is only one step removed from the no-compromise/no-quarter mentality of the radical right in this country.
